CHARLOTTE - Even by President Obama's loquacious standards, an answer he gave here on health care Friday was a doozy.
Toward the end of a question-and-answer session with workers at an advanced battery technology manufacturer, a woman named Doris stood to ask the president whether it was a "wise decision to add more taxes to us with the health care" package.
"We are over-taxed as it is," Doris said bluntly.
Obama started out feisty. "Well, let's talk about that, because this is an area where there's been just a whole lot of misinformation, and I'm going to have to work hard over the next several months to clean up a lot of the misapprehensions that people have," the president said.
He then spent the next 17 minutes and 12 seconds lulling the crowd into a daze. His discursive answer - more than 2,500 words long -- wandered from topic to topic, including commentary on the deficit, pay-as-you-go rules passed by Congress, Congressional Budget Office reports on Medicare waste, COBRA coverage, the Recovery Act and Federal Medical Assistance Percentages (he referred to this last item by its inside-the-Beltway name, "F-Map"). He talked about the notion of eliminating foreign aid (not worth it, he said). He invoked Warren Buffett, earmarks and the payroll tax that funds Medicare (referring to it, in fluent Washington lingo, as "FICA").

Why, thank yew, bitt...:)
Hm. Don't you know Cloward-Piven is just right wing fantasy stuff?
The monied liberals who say things like that don't realize that when the toilet flushes, they go down the drain too, not just the people they hate.
I had to double check -yep, this was written by Anne Kornblut .
I couldn’t believe it.
Kornblut ridiculing Barry ??
Are pigs flying ?
The eyes of a crazed zealot.
BHO is just like one of the guys at work. I ask a question and I know it’s going to be a 20 minutes answer instead of “Yes” or “No.” Makes me never want to ask a question because I am afraid of the answer. BHO just loves hearing himself speak and expects that we are dazzled by his wit, wisdom, intelligence, understanding, compassion, and...
Not anymore, you poor girl.
I’ll bet he could be even less convincing if he went on for 5,000 words!
LOL.... nice and you know that is his true feeling but if he ever uttered it he would risk losing.... oh never mind those Zombies who support would continue to even if he was cutting off detractors heads on the White House lawn every Sunday.
FICA is Social Security which takes 6.2% out of your salary, Medicare is a separate 1.45% and is not funded by the FICA tax. The $ go into separate pots. It appears that Obama does not know the difference.
My granny used to tell me:
A man convinced against his will,
Is of the same opinion still.
The little girl lower right - LOL!
Eeew. Looks like The Sanderson Sisters!
ROTFLMAO! I had no idea who “The Sanderson Sisters” were, and had to google them...
Boy, did YOU ever nail it!
Since when are they planning that? I thought they dumped that long ago. Haven't heard "Universal Health Care" since Hillary's failure.
.
“we have been, up until last week, the only advanced country that allows 15 million of its citizens to not have any health insurance. ..”
Yeah...it’s called liberty, Barry. Americans have fought and died for it for two centuries.
“Most of the budget is Medicare, Social Security, Medicaid, defense spending and interest on the national debt”
Those first three things shouldn’t even exist, Barry. Wind those programs out of existence and the Federal budget will look a LOT better.
This photo begs for a photoshopping. I see a thought bubble for the girl in the lower right that reads....”Stoopid grown-ups! Take your pictures of the Marxist already and let’s go home!”
People are going to get sick and tired of Bummer’s evasiveness about Bummercare’s cost real quick.
The little girl in the lower right is asking, “How can adults be so stupid? What chance do I have with a bunch like this?”
Hell's Bells, just reading this article made me want to keel over, much less listening to the entire 17+ minute ridiculousness spouted with nose in the air and head bobbing from side to side.
Paaa-uke.
That said, I finally have to ask: I keep hearing this line about insurance companies "dropping" patients because they got sick or "cancelling their policy right after they got sick." I have a hard time believing that happens -- at least the way TOTUS is portraying -- or, if it happens, that it's not some rare, rogue practice.
For one thing, I cannot imagine that, in a nation full of trial lawyers and up to Jupiter in regulation of the insurance industry already, insurers could do the above, period, or, two, do the above unless it were provided for somehow in the coverage limits on the policy. In which case, isn't that your bad for choosing the policy?
Can anyone splain this to me?
