WASHINGTON (AP) - Reversing course, Army Secretary John McHugh warned soldiers Thursday that they still can be discharged for acknowledging they are gay, saying he misspoke earlier this week when he suggested the military's "don't ask, don't tell" policy had been temporarily suspended.
The public stumble by a senior service official is an indication of the issue's legal complexity. The Pentagon has said it wants to hear from gay troops as it conducts a broad study on how it could lift the ban, as President Barack Obama wants.

That’s my problem with it. What is the purpose of having homosexuals state their preference in the military? I don’t think it is necessary for heterosexuals to state their preference either.
The homosexual lobby’s main concern s with normalizing this behavior. It is not normal and it is against the religious beliefs of many Americans and they are tired of having this stuff crammed down their throats.
If they really wish to serve then they simply need not tell anyone they are homosexuals. Most will probably figure it out on their own anyway. Homosexuals have served in the military for as long as their has been one. It is only in this generation’s morally upside down culture that they want a place of honor to go along with it.
The “gay” movement would probably garner more public support if they were less militant in their tactics. A clear majority of Americans are extremely tolerant ( as in generously tolerant) of this behavior, but don’t expect us to classify it as “normal” or equal to marriage between a man and a woman.
Clearly it is NOT.

To the mentally healthy person (heterosexual), sex is something you do.
To the mentally diseased person ('homosexual'), Sex is everything you are.
For the sodomites it's all about the sex. It has always been all about the sex. It will always be all about the sex. Their entire self worth and self image is determined by the sex. Without the sex they are nothing. Which is why they always want everyone to know about the sex.
What next? Will Obama convene a panel of NAMBLA members to get their opinion so he can socially engineer our military to his liking?
But we have the best, without a doubt heads above all other. Would we prefer that we were demoted to just "one of the best?"
We are not Israel, or any other country in the world for that matter. We are much better. We have our own values, and overwhelmingly our citizens do not accept homosexuality as normal or moral.
Besides the morality issue, the logistics of implementing and maintaining an open homo policy in the military would be expensive, inefficient, and costly to morale.
Many military personnel have stated that they would not re-enlist, many would-be recruits would be repulsed from enlisting - some conservative estimates put this rate at around 10%. Can we really afford such a reduction?
We do not house male and female troops in close community quarter, for good, logical reasons. How than does the problem of open homosexuals get resolved? They can't be housed with normal troops, for the same reason women can't. They can't be housed with other homosexuals, for the same reasons. Homosexual men can't be housed with heterosexual female personnel. So the solution is to have them housed alone. Individual, fully equipped private quarters for each sodomite soldier. The cost would be enormous.
All this to appease the fragile feelings of sodomites.
