CIA says ACLU-backed plan endangered Gitmo officers

A team of CIA counterintelligence officials recently visited the U.S. military prison at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, and concluded that CIA interrogators face the risk of exposure to al Qaeda through inmates' contacts with defense attorneys, according to U.S. officials.

The agency's "tiger team" of security specialists was dispatched as part of an ongoing investigation conducted jointly with the Justice Department into a program backed by the American Civil Liberties Union. The program, called the John Adams Project, has photographed covert CIA interrogators and shown the pictures to some of the five senior al Qaeda terrorists held there in an effort to identify them further.

Details of the review could not be learned. However, the CIA team came away from the review, conducted the week of March 14, "very concerned" that agency personnel have been put in danger by military rules allowing interaction between the five inmates and defense attorneys, according to an intelligence source close to the review.

The team also expressed concerns about the inmates' access to laptop computers in the past. Some of the inmates who are representing themselves in legal proceedings were granted laptop computers without Internet access. However, the officials fear that future unfavorable court rulings could provide the inmates with the capability of communicating outside the island prison.

The joint investigation, which recently added U.S. Attorney Patrick J. Fitzgerald to the Justice Department team, was stepped up earlier this month after a disagreement between Justice Department and CIA officials over whether CIA officers' lives were put in danger at the prison.

Adding a note from the Weekly standard:

CIA Says Gitmo Bar Endangered Its Agents [Andy McCarthy]

***********************EXCERPT********************************

[Prosecutor Patrick Fitzgerald] was called into the case after agency officials voiced worries that Justice Department investigators did not share their level of concern over the danger that al Qaeda terrorists at Guantanamo, including Sept. 11 mastermind Khalid Shaikh Mohammed, could secretly send information on the identities of CIA officers to al Qaeda terrorists outside the prison through the attorneys. A senior Justice Department National Security Division official, Donald Vieira, recused himself from the probe earlier this month as a result of the interagency dispute. Mr. Vieira was a Democratic counsel on the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence, before taking a post at the Justice Department....

Regarding the interagency dispute, some CIA officials are said to be concerned that Justice Department investigators may have been advocates on behalf of the Guantanamo Bay detainees prior to joining the Obama administration....

Oh Boy...

**************************EXCERPT**********************************

As I noted in a column Monday, while Jennifer Daskal was an attorney at the leftist Human Rights Watch (HRW) — and functioning as a tireless advocate for the al-Qaeda detainees — she played a key role in HRW's 2005 exposure of the CIA's secret detention of top terrorists in Europe and elsewhere. At The Weekly Standard, Debra Burlingame and Tom Joscelyn have recounted that HRW was able to compromise the CIA agents by tracking CIA-chartered flights, among other things. Since early 2009, Daskal — who has no prosecutorial experience — has been working in the Justice Department's National Security Division, recruited by Attorney General Eric Holder to work on detainee policy.

***************************************EXCERPT*******************************************

Newsweek magazine reported March 29 that CIA concerns were heightened after 20 color photographs of CIA officials were found in the cell of Mustafa Ahmed al-Hawsawi, a detainee who U.S. officials think is one of the financiers of the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks.

The ACLU wants the CIA agents put in danger. They did this when the joined with marxist CIA traitor Phillip Agee and his Committee for the Fifth Estate/PEPIC, Covert Action (Information Bulletin) back in the 70’s.

SInce the head of the ACLU’s Surveillance Project at Harvard in the 70’s was the Communist Party’s security operative Frank Donner (meaning that he was probably trained by the KGB), and their goal was to cripple/destroy the FBI and CIA, the ACLU has paralleled the CPUSA in their projects.

In some cases, the leading ACLU figures were either members of the CPUSA or had long records of supporting them thru CP “legal fronts” such as the National Lawyers Guild, the National Emergency Civil Liberties Committee, the old CCL, and the newer NLG-creation, the Center for Constitutional Rights.

Do the names Ramsay Clark, William Kunstler, Morton Stavis (id. CP), Peter Weiss (IPS), Michael Ratner, Ramona Ripston (ACLU-Calf and her red husband Hank DiSurvero), etc. sound familiar?

How about Frank Wilkinson, CPUSA, and head of the CP’s fronts the National Committee to Abolish the House Un-American Activities Committee/House Internal Security Committee, which became the NCARL (National Coalition Against Repressive Legislation). NCARL contains the Chicago Committee to Defend Civil Rights (rough title), a longtime CPUSA dominated group, and a parallel legal coalition, known as the Alliance, which has both CPUSA members and leftist friends of Obama in it. They helped to destroy the Chicago Police “Red Squad”, an organization which had collected significant information on the communist connections of many of Obama’s friends and advisors including Danny Davis (US Rep), Frank Marshall Davis (CPUSA), the members of the Chicago Peace Council (CPUSA front), the CPUSA dominated Amalgamated Meatcutters & Butcherworkmens’ Union (id. CPUSA member Rep. Charles Hayes), the late mayor Harold Washington, Obama advisors Don Rose and identified CPUSA member/registered Soviet agent David Cantor (d), among others.

The ACLU is up to its red neck in supporting the communists against America. Nothing has changed in over 50 years.

I thought we had this settled: henceforth kill them on the battlefield.

Has the CIA that took down governments and contracted with the mob to assassinate Castro decided to lie down in front of Hussein's Pink Panzer.

I have to hit the rack. Had been viewing a bunch of climate gate oriented sites for the latest. Oh boy! It has come to this. So what is the new CIA director going to do about it?
Have to sign off. Mind is weary. Do have a great upcoming day Ernest.

It would appear the CIA is marching in mincing, ballet like steps, in their newly pink uniforms.

Drone attacks being an exception of course. Hopefully enough old guard will hang in in hopes of a 2012 reversal of this current nightmare we/them are all living with.
