Her offence was to unwittingly sell a goldfish to a 14-year-old boy taking part in a trading standards 'sting'.

At most, pet shop owner Joan Higgins, 66, expected a slap on the wrist for breaking new animal welfare laws which ban the sale of pets to under-16s.

Instead, the great-grandmother was taken to court, fined £1,000, placed under curfew - and ordered to wear an electronic tag for two months.

The punishment is normally handed out to violent thugs and repeat offenders.

The prosecution of Mrs Higgins and her son Mark is estimated to have cost taxpayers £20,000 and has left her with a criminal record.

Rudyard Kipling would give these people a good thrashing to set them straight, if he were alive today.

Churchill would have had them all shot.

Maybe we should have let the damn Germans starve out and overrun Britain back in the 1940s.

It seems we spent all that wealth and shed the blood of our finest young men for a country that surrendered itself to Socialism/Communism anyway.

I am starting to lose any sympathy for them.

Face it: Britain blows.

And we won’t be far behind it now that we have Dear Leader running the show.

PETS!? I used to buy those things ten at a time to feed to my Lion Fish. They even called them ‘feeder goldfish’. She should have sold them as really fresh fish food.

I am too. These crazy "only in Great Britain" stories seem to happen daily. It's time to accept the fact that Britain is a democracy and the bizzaro-world craziness that has engulfed Britain is the result of policies enacted by individuals who were duly and fairly elected to office.

The socialist will beat down the innocents and go easy on the guilty.

Cowards.

We visit England frequently, but I think this year’s trip will be our final one. They have seriously lost their grip over there. In addition to idiocy like in this article, the muzzies are about to take over the cities. It’s a shame.

Violent thugs only hurt other commoners. What this lady did was an offense to the state, which must be dealt with harshly lest people start thinking they can ignore the whims of their masters.

I used to buy large white rats to feed my Burmese Python. I was 15 years old. I wonder what these wunderkind would have thought of that.

I might get fined for selling 0bama toilet paper.

Don’t worry, it’s Halal.

Shades of Dr. Ferris...

"Well, when there aren't enough criminals one makes them. One declares so many things to be a crime that it becomes impossible for men to live without breaking laws. Who wants a nation of law-abiding citizens? What's there in that for anyone? But just pass the kind of laws that can neither be observed nor enforced or objectively interpreted – and you create a nation of law-breakers – and then you cash in on guilt."

Quite a sense of proportion there. I wonder if modern bureaucrats ever feel like the soulless, meddlesome, parasitic buffoons they really are?

There is more to this story than the tabloids are printing.

The BBC and Sky have pointed out that the woman is also in trouble for keeping and trying to sell a badly injured animal which was being kept in pain and in poor conditions.

Also, if you seriously think such thoughts about ‘muzzies’ and Britain, perhaps its best you dont come over OR see more of the country.
