Florida Gov. Charlie Crist badly needs some help in his Senate race, as he's currently trailing fellow Republican Marco Rubio. He'd hoped to get some of that help with an endorsement from retired Col. Bud Day, a former Swift Boat Vet. Instead, Crist got a new round of controversy, thanks to some remarks by Day:
[Snip]
"You've got the black one with the reading thing. He can go as fast as the speed of light and has no idea what he's saying," Day said. "I put Rubio in that same category, except I don't know if he's using one of those readers."
This all seems to be related to the idea, inexplicably almost now taken as gospel on the right, that Obama can't speak without a teleprompter. At the New Republic, Jonathan Chait calls this a "racist trope" and suggests that this particular example is, essentially, Rubio's chickens coming home to roost, as the former Florida House speaker has used it himself.
I'm not quite as sure that the idea itself is tied to racism; clearly this example has some serious racial overtones, and that may be a part of it, but I also think it's tied to a desire on the part of some Republicans to get some intellectual vindication for former President George W. Bush. What do you all think?

After seeing the recent video of him on CNN, I believe it was, I went right to Amazon and purchased his book.
...gotta support a man like Kevin Jackson.
The race card/race baiting will cease when it ceases to work. It works when you cower from the accusation. It works when you “back off” on your critical rhetoric.
MAKE IT NOT WORK.
In general, the left always uses some “human shield” to hide behind to do their destruction in order to deflect any criticism as bigotted or mean spirited.
In particular, the “racist” accusation has been particularly effective in silencing opposition. It’s no wonder they reflexively use it.
That makes things interesting for Crist.
A good portion of Floridians don’t like Cubans and by bringing that up this guy could help Crist with those votes. On the other hand, Crists refusal to even vet this guy means that what Cuban support he had is permanently gone against Rubio.
Aw hell, being white is the ultimate racist act.
Sounds like grounds for criminalizing all criticism of Dear Leader if you ask me.
On June 6, 2009, I printed a picture off the White House website—it’s a fuzzy picture of Zero in the background and a clear picture of the TOTUS, with Zero’s unhappy face, in the lower right corner. Sorry I didn’t save it electronically or I’d try to attach it here. If the White House itself featured the TOTUS why all the fuss? (And, yes, the Zero is totally unable to speak “off the cuff”.)
I wholly encourage the left to see racism behind all opposition to them and their policies. It may not be good for the country as a whole. But is sure the hell helps us in our battle to expose them as demagogues, and shows the middle of the road public who the real racists are.
“I suppose that mentioning that his lips look blue is racist too.”
I think I figured that one out - peppermint Chapstick.

Another observation -
this obviously is bothering them or is becoming an effective criticism
since they automatically target any effective tactic, movement, or criticism as “racist”.
They don’t bother with those things that aren’t effective.
I think it’s a twenty year old recent college grad. That had to make sure the speeches were completely orthodox liberal, completely naive, and completely illogical.
Nobody buys that. Everyone has seen him talk intelligently without any aids many times. The televised meeting with Republicans, during debates, etc. We can legitimately criticize him for many things but the teleprompter thing just sounds ridiculous because everyone knows other presidents have used them too - Bush, Reagan, Clinton.
OTOH. . .well, we know the rest of the story and just how big is the racist log that sits in the collective eye of the Demrat Party. . .appears as if these people never met a person of color that they did not try to use for their own political self-servance. These people are worse than disgusting.
