SNIPPET: "Pirates captured a Panama-flagged cargo ship just 10 miles from its port on Monday. The ship was last reported being sailed through the Gulf of Aden toward Somalia.
The attack comes after seven ships were hijacked in the Indian Ocean this weekend and underscores the persistence of pirates even in the face of increased international patroling and private security measures undertaken by cargo ships.
The ship was carrying mixed mechanical equipment toward the United Arab Emirates when attacked, according to an EU Naval Force release. The 24 members of the crew are from Yemen, India, Ghana, Sudan, Pakistan, and the Philippines, the Associated Press reports.

Not when it took the President more than half a millisecond to order those who hijacked the American ship to be taken out.
Jeeeez are you really telling me this all couldn’t be stopped in a few days
with guns guts and glory,
Oh, I forgot.
We haven’t had that in years.
Go head then Somali POSs ... rob and rape some more while Washington wrings its hands ..........
This has more or less been going on for a thousand years in that area of the world, I doubt we’ll have any more effect than we’ve had on the importation of drugs into our own country.
We need some wooden ships and the iron men to man them. Then we would see how pirates should be treated.
So we’ve lost the southern border of our own country...
Why am I not surprised that the high seas are continuing to be compramised...
I wonder if the nations of the world would get their panties in a wad if a small group of Americans purchased an ocean-going tub and turned it into their own armored Q-boat?
The Q-boat would just lazily wander around off the coast of Squatamolia and look like innocent prey. When the Muslim marine terrorists drop by for a visit the Q-boaters open up and let them have it.
They would shoot, sink, and quietly move on waiting for their next target to come to them.
Could they be charged with anything?
This sounds more like payola than piracy.
My undertanding is that the SEAL theater commander interpreted the ROE pretty liberally, and THAT is why the SEALs eventually did fire, successfully completing the mission. Despite the accolades that redounded to the Obama admin, in priciple Obama and his folks were angered, i.e. their political support base would be angered by these SEAL killings.
And so for THAT reason the Obama admin did prosecute the SEALs who were later accused of punching a terrorist in the face.
My guess is that the next time SEALS are faced with a goat ph*ck/get the job done-type choice they will circle A next time, and not B.
It was political PAYBACK, I am saying.
took the words right out of my mouth —whoops! ;)
Your freeper handle says it all! The Carbon Footprint from such a heinous enterprise would cause Global Warming and affect the innocent women and children of Somalia, before they could seek asylum in Maine!
Your use of the pejorative term "pirates" in referring to Somali Marine Ecology Guardians is racist. Hydrazine, this time you have gone too far!
I am going to have you banned from DU. (Wait, this is DU, right, Mr. Moderator?)
Unfortunately, that would not be surprising.
The U.S. Navy should sail down the Somali coast once a month, sinking anything that floats.
Kinda like trash detail but a lot more fun?
