GOP fires Allison Meyers as strip-club scandal taints party
Christian Science Monitor ^ | 03/30/2010 | Dave Cook

Allison Meyers was director of the GOP's Young Eagles, a group that wooed young donors and visited a strip club in Los Angeles – racking up $1,946 in expenses that the party initially reimbursed. The scandal could hurt the GOP in three ways, in particular.

Allison Meyers, the director of the Young Eagles, a Republican program aimed at wooing donors under 45 years old to the GOP cause, was fired as a result of the strip-club scandal that has embroiled the party this week, according to media reports.

The Republican National Committee reimbursed about $2,000 in expenses rung up by the Young Eagles at a Hollywood nightclub featuring topless dancers and bondage outfits. Ms. Meyers allegedly approved the expense.

Fallout could affect Republican fundraising, particularly among its fiscally and morally conservative small donors....

Alienating small donors

"Already we see big donors avoiding the RNC like the plague. Instead they are giving to the Republican Governors Association,” says Reid Wilson, editor of... Hotline On Call. “That is going to hurt Republican efforts to retake the House and pick up Senate seats in November. Big donors don’t trust Michael Steele, and stories like this scare small donors away.”...

Steele had already alienated some major donors with his spending. He held the party’s winter meeting at a beachfront hotel in Hawaii and drew criticism for delivering paid speeches and writing a book while drawing a salary from the GOP...

Mike DeMoss, a longtime RNC donor, told Politico that, “The RNC cannot attack Democrats for how the government spends taxpayer money when it is spending Republican donor money recklessly. Recent RNC spending stories suggest a tone-deafness at best and a misappropriation of funds at worst.”

Confirming tea partyers suspicions

The nightclub flap could also hurt Republican efforts to reach out to "tea party" voters...

It’s not really a “strip-club”. It’s supposedly some kind of trendy Hollywood night club. The “news media” isn’t big on getting its facts straight.

Ugly people turned away.

I've heard about these clubs that discriminate based on appearance (not wallet, not dresscode).

Has to be a lawsuit in the offing.

Around these parts minorities claim that the "non-entry" is because of "racism" although "ugly" people of all heritage are turned away.

Exactly right. Although if one is prominent in the party,
being seen at a strip club at all is pretty questionable.

Give ammo to the hufo and slate and other dem operators.

A real party with moral certitude fires this woman when she submits the expenses, not when they hit the newspapers.

I’m sure that any donors left out there would be really sore about where their money wound up being spent.

The GOP: in death throes.

About time.

Are you sure this is the correct Allison Meyers? There are 67 of them on Facebook?

That is not the correct Allison Myers (by a long shot). This group took a bunch of prospective members for dinner in our area. The amount of money wasted was incredible. They flew three RNC staffers in for the event, plus a speaker from New York. Thousands spent on food and booze. The one expense at the club may be trumped up a bit, but there is clearly waste that is being explicitly sanctioned from the top up. The RNC needs a new leader.

Replace Meyers with Sarah Palin, and then watch the $$ roll in.

I’m a registered Republican, but I haven’t donated anything for several years now, in boycott of RINO activities...that said, something about this story stinks to high heaven—is this Allison person possibly a plant? All of this seems too...convenient.

I either read or heard somewhere online that it wasn’t a strip club, just a regular club, which isn’t quite as risque sounding—the MSM is still pushing the lies about the Tea Party people being ‘extremely violent and violently extreme’ so what’s to stop them from adding one little word to a story that will make people sit up and listen for more gossip??

It makes perfect sense to me. Steele has established a culture of corruption: constant partying, private jets, limos, resorts. He says that he needs to party to raise money, but the numbers show that he is not raising money, just spending it.

I do not and will not give any money to the RNC until they clean up their act. And I don't mean this kind of incident I mean unapologetic support for conservatives and conservative policies. I have returned their questionnaires and donation requests with that demand for years now.

Individual candidates, like JD Hayworth, will get a direct infusion of cash instead.
