It is pleasing how fresh the breeze of equality is at Althingi [the Icelandic parliament] these days, said Siv Fridleifsdótttir of the Progressive Party, the bills first presenter, Fréttabladid reports.
She also said a step had been taken towards increased democracy, considering a legislation which was presented by a member of the opposition was passed.
Stripping had generally been banned in Iceland before yesterdays legislation was passed, but a few clubs were operating on a legal exemption. Now they will no longer be able to do so.
Ásgeir Davídsson who runs the strip club Goldfinger in Kópavogur is looking into whether he can sue the Icelandic state for compensation.
I have reached the age where Im not sure whether I want to bother with this hassle anymore, he said. I would be relieved if they just paid me compensation and I would quit.
Davídsson said yesterdays legislation reminds him of regulations in countries where hardly any part of a womans body can be seen in public. He claimed Iceland is the first European country to ban stripping.
Fridleifsdóttir said she doesnt know whether it is true that Iceland is the first country in Europe to pass such a legislation.
But we showed consideration while passing the legislation by allowing the clubs a long time to adjust, she said, adding that the parliaments General Committee does not believe strip clubs are entitled to compensation.
I don’t know about Iceland but I played drums in rock bands for 25 years and a lot of the clubs were dual purpose so the strippers were always around. They are by far some of the most dangerous people I’ve ever met. Yeah they look good, but they are insane. Don’t look for them to be gainfully employed.
It’s really difficult to find an appropriate response that isn’t also insulting.
So, I’ll just say I’d rather have strippers living on my block than Puritans, blue-noses, totalitarians, Fascists or those who go crying to the government to intervene in social activities they don’t like.
Have a drink and a smoke and relax, willya? Maybe get a little, that’ll lighten your mood.
Oh, and as for that “ask ...blah, blah:”
Some grant junkie a couple of decades ago learned that wives get more when their husbands come home from a strip club.
What you just posted is a bunch of nonsense. Strippers get tipped to rub their customers. How is that not prostitution? When license takes over a Republic the Republic is doomed. We are possibly past that point. I’m not in favor of it and think localities should outlaw stripping in their communities if they want to.
Presumably you would bar the infamous strip shows with bestiality. What line do you think differentiates one from the other? Grossness as you see it?
And you are in this thread same as me. Who’s focusing on this and who is not?
Once again good for Iceland for protecting Iceland’s daughters.
Who’s uptight and out of sorts here? Not me!
RockinRight...never mentioned prostitution.
If you mean...Biden, and Pelosi.
Then yeah...I am.
Well that's sexist!
What about male strippers?

Yah, I’m with you regarding that world and those women. I was on the fringe of society for a while with a particular “career.” Know a lot more about that world than these folks calling me uptight . . . and those years were mispent. The girls are taking the easy way out and are usually insane, prostitutes or occassional prostitutes, or drug addicts getting the easiest money they can get. Often all three, if they are not girls being turned out by some evil bastard boyfriend or “husband.”
Good for Iceland.
Once again good for Iceland for protecting Icelands daughters.

True. I guess it protects the male strippers mother’s also. Poor ladies.
The national gov IS the local gov in Iceland —> it’s a tiny little country —> just 300,000 people.
300,000 people only (surnames like JonsDOTTIR, JonsSON etc) —> lots of inbreeding I’d reckon!
Iceland --- 316,900
Tulsa, Oklahoma --- 384,600
Global warming.
RockinRight...never mentioned prostitution.

Read my other posts. Whether someone mentions it or not that is the reality. The whole fig leaf form of argument is getting old, as is the “definitions and not reality is what’s important. Ignoring the obvious and playing word games is also sort of a bore.
Did you know there is a class of girl that now actually aspires to be a porn star?
“Did you know there is a class of girl that now actually aspires to be a porn star?” —> you must be kidding.
Iceland, --- 316,900
Tulsa, Oklahoma, area including suburbs --- 1,035,755
Nope I’ve talked to two of them. One was a hairdresser. Immigrant from the caribean. Other was a white girl out of the trailer park.
This is just another way for them to get back at the bankers.
Once again, RockinRight never mentioned prostitution.
You did.
Words have meanings.....

Do strippers get paid to rub against men?
Distinguish this from prostitution using words that have meanings.
