Californians lost their jobs at a faster pace than most Americans. Not too surprisingly, their incomes shrank at a faster pace, too.
Per capita personal incomes fell 3.5 percent in California last year, . . .

U-HAUL, the trucking and moving company has done a study on interstate movement ( in and out of a state ).
Based their study the past 5 years, it seems that more people are moving OUT of California than moving in. The so-called Golden State has been bleeding population by the hundreds of thousands the past few years.
It will not be surprising to note that those leaving are the ones who are (hoe to put it ), more well-to-do trying to find a better life so that they can keep more of what they earn.
I will also guess that those staying on are those who are receiving the most generous welfare from Sacramento and of course the illegals who won’t leave because they have a better deal than what they can get back home.
With this in mind, and with the REAL unemployment rate in the state at close to 20%, it should not be surprising to see the average personal income level come down.
If this trend is not reversed, I will not be surprised to see many of California’s cities go the way of Detroit.
Government income leveling at work.
“Based their study the past 5 years, it seems that more people are moving OUT of California than moving in”
This has been going on for years as Conservatives move out. However this does not take into account those who walk across the border from Mexico to replace those moving out of state.
People vote with their feet and their money.....................
One glance at those now running the state and all is explained. (I understand that the legislature just appointed a fat gay Mexican as its head.)
Kalifornia form of gov’t has not been able to produce a competent gov’t for quite some time. It is hard to imagine what it would take to fix it. Perhaps it can’t be fixed.
Using “ballot initiatives” whereby the citizenry votes for bennies and services, while also voting against taxes to pay for them does not make for efficient government.
Are the wealthy Dems fleeing the Bay Area and West LA? If that is the case, then the state really is toast.
The “ballot initiatives” are hardly to blame for Kalifornia’s financial problems. The problem is voters who keep voting in corrupt Democrats into the legislature. Deficit spending is the order of the day with that crew. And they have created a horrible business climate which further reduces the tax base as companies leave the state for healthier business climates.
But we are so green!
It could be fixed but for the fact that people probably could not stand the remedies.
Should be titled Too many taxes = Job loss = Personal Income Down

“The ballot initiatives are hardly to blame for Kalifornias financial problems.”
I would disagree with this, ballot initiatives are part of the problem. Every election we have tons of bond measures that are on the ballot that get passed, people view this as free money so why not fork over 40 billion for a high speed train between LA and SF? or 3 billion for stem cell research? Funny thing is the idiots may be right about it being “free money” because California is on the path towards defaulting on these bonds. It’ll work once but good luck selling bonds after that!
The demographics were clear to me by 1999. I wasn't going to be able to retire in my home in San Diego. I sold it after 18 years and purchased a much nicer one in Idaho. The liberal voters and illegal alien voters far outnumber the conservative voters in CA. You'll never have another fair election. I felt no obligation to continue paying punitive levels of taxation and putting up with shitty liberal government. I voted with my feet.
