In celebration of electricity and how much everyone appreciates this marvelous invention, cities across the world have been turning off their lights for one hour starting at 8:30 pm tonight (check your local TV listings). Clutching candles as the only means of light, earthlings learn to appreciate the only source of light before the invention of electric light. The cost to commerce and personal income from the hour long event can be fully appreciated in the video below when the electricity goes off.

I just seem to have a different take on this. I’m thinking: “Hey guys, ever wondered what it’s like to live in a socialist state where it’s like this all the time, and not by choice?”

You don't have to wonder. You can see it from satellite imagery of N.Korea and S.Korea. If you look real close at N. Korea, you can see a couple of flickers of light from the candles. The brightly lit part in S. Korea is people having fun in Seoul.

$900 electric bill, yikes! Our bill on two houses (combined bill) was $83 last month. As a side note, I guess you will not be voting for Prop 16.

I gave it some thought, emitted some green house gases, and went on with my life.

And 99.99999% of the world’s populace did the same thing. Correction, 99.99998% of the world never even heard of this idiotic whiz into the wind.

My husband and I were at the San Diego airport waiting for a flight later in the evening. He had his computer plugged into an outlet and was doing some productive work. Coincidentally, at about 8:15, the outlet quit working. My first thought was, "OK, This I going too far...."
I do have pictures somewhere of a totally lit house from last year.

I missed it.

I might make up for it by burning some old tires, like I sometimes do on “Earth Day”.

Don’t get me wrong. I totally LOVE our planet, as it is one of the most remarkable places we humans know of in our universe. At the same time, I detest the constant leftist planet worship. When it comes down to it, I believe I love the planet as much as they do. I just don’t get into wanting to control people’s lives in the name of “saving the planet”, because I believe it’s a false choice.

There is NOTHING we can do to affect this planet over the long term. Everything we have built, along with our physical bodies themselves came from this Earth, and eventually the Earth reclaims it all. Our time here is going to be so brief, in a million or so years, it will likely be debatable whether or not we humans even existed.

Clutching candles as the only means of light, earthlings learn to appreciate the only source of light before the invention of electric light.

The author never heard of gas lighting, which pre-dates electricity? Also, did campfires not provide any illumination before the electric light was invented?

Even older, oil lamps go back thousands of years.
