KABUL, March 28 (Reuters) - U.S. President Barack Obama arrived in Kabul on Sunday for an unannounced visit to Afghanistan, his first trip to the country since becoming president and commander-in-chief of the U.S.-led war effort.
Obama's brief trip was expected to include a one-on-one meeting with Afghan President Hamid Karzai, an expanded meeting with Karzai's cabinet and U.S. officials, and a speech to American military personnel.
A White House official, speaking before the trip, said Obama wanted to get an "on the ground update" about the war from General Stanley McChrystal, the U.S. and NATO commander, as well as Karl Eikenberry, the U.S. ambassador.

Iowa City = Afghanistan
Must refrain from posting my true thoughts.
So is this the same Afghanistan that has had DOUBLE the deaths in American troops? The one where Hussein dithered for about 100 days before giving the generals less than what they needed? That Afghanistan?
Our troops suffer enough hardships.
BO needs to leave them the hell alone.
Probably searching for Christ so he can crucify him.
I wish he had reason to be but most think that will not happen. Boosting poll numbers is what this is all about...more grandstanding and photo ops with his chin up in the air. Go admonish and pontificate to people that can be ordered to respond favorably. Military for politics.
ditto!
Fox News reporting that Obama inherited the war, but NOT mentioning that Bush inhertied the war from Clinton. Bin Laden went to Afghanistan during Clinton’s watch. How soon the media forgets all that Bush did in Afghanistan and how many terrorists were captured. What did Clinton DO? OH and Bush inherited the mess in Iraq from Clinton too.
Does he get triple frequent flyer miles for flying on the weekend?
Political gesture that will not go over well with his base. It will, however give talking points to his captive MSM.
And the troops will applaud politely and try to keep from gagging at the sight of him.
....unless, of course, he bribes them with cameras like he did in Iraq.....
*"sh*ts and giggles!"

Will he bow down before Karzai, or hand him a list of demands?
Enquiring minds want to know.
Maybe he took Nancy and Harry in his traveling crew.
If he is afraid of them, he shouldn’t be. They will treat him cordially if coldly. What I think he’s (rationally) afraid of is that there will be some unflattering photographs with pursed-lipped troops.
Oh, good PR move, teh one!
Your rep is in the toilet because of your socialist health care so what photo op do you have at your disposal? Wrap your self up with REAL HEROES who can’t do anything about it - you POS poser!
Just like Rush said...an immediate change of subject.
POTUS currently meeting w/ Karzai at Presidential Palace - will be joined by Cabinet shortly - Gen McChrystal and Amb Eikenberry here too
