Election to replace Murtha portends change
PITTSBURGH TRIBUNE-REVIEW ^ | March 18, 2010 | Debra Erdley

Voters in the predominantly Democratic but socially conservative district long represented in Congress by the late Rep. John Murtha appear to embrace ideals of the so-called "tea party" movement that favors small government and limited spending, a new poll shows.

An apparent statistical dead heat is shaping up in the special election race to succeed Murtha between his former district director, Mark Critz of Johnstown, and Republican businessman Tim Burns of Eighty Four in Washington County.

We've got to win this one to keep the momentum going toward November. Right now Burns(R)is trailing a bit...

Unfortunately, there is heavy union influence in that region. And you know, unions will always vote Democrat. And for good measure, they will register as many inelligble voters as they can find.

But yes, it would be great to see a Republican in that seat after years of Murtha.

Hell, if Brown can take Kennedy’s seat Burns ought to be a shoo-in - union or no union.

With Scott Brown, the whole country was sending money. Is anyone outside helping this guy?

Are there any union jobs there? I worked for in his district for awhile and it didn’t look like there were ANY jobs there besides his pork projects, and they were few. I dare say it was one of the most miserable times of my life.

Where does Russell stand against the other ones? I sent him a contribution or two last time...but now I want to support the Rep. that’s going to win, whoever that is.

“With Scott Brown, the whole country was sending money. Is anyone outside helping this guy?”

Good question! Is the RNC and Steele in there supporting him? What about Hennety, Rush, Levin and the other conservative talkers?

These special elections have big national implications. This one in particular, being the first after the passing of the health care monstrosity, will be seen as a referendum on it’s passage. It’ll be a big propaganda coup for the winning side and it may create momentum for november.

I hope the NRC is not asleep as it usually is.

I for one plan to send a contribution to Burns.

This is alittle known fact, but you may know it. If you are ever in Johnstown, PA at night and you are real quiet, and open your window, You can hear the town rust.

I'd like to know this as well. Is he being pushed aside for some RNC approved RINO? Shouldn't he have dibs on this election??

This could be a vitally important election to win, if for no other reason than for morale - it would be a stinging rebuke to Obama and the left-wing/liberal fascists. Let us hope that it can be pulled off in the same manner as Scott Brown's victory in Mass. was achieved.

Maybe someone on this thread might be able to answer a question I have? On the health care vote tally I saw at the Washington Post Murtha was listed as voting yea. Did someone cast a vote in his name, or was it a mistake at WAPO? I tried to find out before, but never did...

Burns was selected by the local GOP to run in the special election to fill the rest of Murtha’s term (i.e. until next January.)

On the same day, Burns and Russel will face off in a primary to see who is on the general election ballot for the seat’s next term (starting in January).

Burns is a Tea Party activist and no Gop insider.
Russel just lost the delegate vote and need to wait for the upcoming formal primary.

We do not need to spread BS to help the Dems .
