Two years ago, John McCain transformed Sarah Palin overnight from an obscure first-term Alaska governor into a national celebrity when he picked her as his vice presidential running mate.
Now Palin is repaying the favor, putting her prestige on the line in an effort to help the four-term Arizona senator overcome his toughest re-election challenge ever.
The two campaigned together Friday for the first time since they lost the presidential race in 2008.
At the first of two rallies this weekend, Palin pumped up Tea Partiers, invoking the cause of the first Tea Party in 1773.
"Remember it was the Freedom Fighters and those who protested tyranny and big government," she said. "And that's what we're doing today."
"And when you think about that first Tea Party, shoot, some may claim that John was there, at the first Tea Party," she said with a laugh, poking fun at McCain's age. McCain, who is 73, grinned widely beside her.

There is PLENTY of time for us to get behind a real and untarnished, noncontroversial candidate.
Still early but my choices in order at this point are DeMint, Hunter, and/or Thompson.
Which is kind of the point in the first place. The pro-Palin crowd expects everyone here to march lock step with Princesses coronation.
He said, she said.....what a bunch of crappola. Most of you aren’t interested in solving any problems, just pissing and moaning at each other. People keep saying Sarah Palin is NOT the enemy...well, neither are other freepers. Some here are good anti amnesty folks who simply refuse to believe Palin is PRO amnesty, by HER words, not ours. It’s peculiar. You all have a shock coming. Let John McCain in there another 6 years and see what kind of mess he leaves us with.
You really have to feel sorry for JD. He really had some momentum gaining on McCain. Then comes Palin doing her best to make sure McCain looks mainstream conservative. Pretty digusting IMO.
That says it all. There is a long way to go before the GOP narrows the prospects down. Even us Palin supporters relise she or anyone else have not even announced yet.
I was a Fred Thompson supporter in 2008, but I also knew who Palin was long before McCain picked her and long before most others knew who she was. My perfect team would of been Thompson/Palin 2008, and I was on FR saying so, when the most common reply from Freepers was, Palin who?
I knew she could be a game changer if she ever threw her hat in the ring in 2008, and I still feel that way. There are others who I could get excited about, but until they prove themselves in the debates and convince me they can beat Obama, and set this country on the right course again, then Palin has my full support.
I've been bashing McCain for about two years now.
If you think I'll stop attacking simply because Palin is willingly serving as his human shield, you're wrong.
As Natural Law wrote some months ago, purge the RINOs and the RINO apologists, and Palin is most certainly a RINO apologist after her disgusting conduct in Arizona this past weekend.
He was there at the beginning of the end of the Republic, viciously stabbing conservatives on behalf of his Lord and Savior, Obama.
“...GET THE HELL OFF FR if you don’t like it, but whatever you do quit your damn whining and pestering good conservative FReepers about your hatred for Sarah Palin!! It’s beyond sickening.

Oh gosh, you just gotta love that JimRob!
Same old, same old here I see VR. Wow, they really dislike Sarah. Makes me wonder.
JD is still trying to get that knife out of his back by this RINO enabler
Don’t be discouraged, JD’s contributions soared over the weekend! I don’t have the figures exact but it looks like about $150,000 in just the two days. Like a backlash from Sarah’s adoration for McQueeg and trying to establish him as a great TP supporter—LOL!
Your attack was on Palin, not McCain.....Did you or did you not post, on comment #1.....FUSP on one of your latest McCain threads?
That was vile and vulgar.
Yeah, tying McCain to the Tea Party movement was way way over the top. Any of you Palinites want to explain that?
Attack McCain all you want. I could care less about him.
BUT when you go out of your way to attack Sarah Palin, like you and your toadies have been doing for sometime now, then you've got a BIG fight on your hands with all of us.
So bring it on, bub!
McCain has been at the front fighting for this for years and now the woman we respected and trusted cannot summon enough courage to tell him NO, John, I can't join you in bringing down our country, either change your ways or forget my support. So she has let us all down and many are baffled--and angry. I doubt very many actually 'hate' her, but you tend to hate being suckered, conned, and teased. Maybe she is not what we thought she was.
You full of shiite. If Palin is a Rino so is DeMint.
But you never went after DeMint. Not one time.
Keywords: hypocrite, one percenter, irrelevant
Just damn, I am going to vote McCain. St. Sarah has given forgiveness to the mother of all RINO’s.
So she has let us all down
Don’t include me in that sweeping assumption, speak for yourself by all means.
She has won over so many people who were not necessarily political, and it is too bad that she could not stay out of the 'limelight' and do a serious newshow on American history and culture, a good blog instead of Facebook comments, and quit the showbiz barnstorming all over the map. She and her family have been threatened by absolute raging maniacs on the Left and these are true hate-mongers, not a few political dissenters on FR, like myself. The cretins who threaten her are the ones to worry about! And they probably collect paychecks (cash!)from 0's thugs in the SEIU.
