SNIPPET: "MEXICO CITY – The deputy police chief in the northern Mexican border city of Nogales was killed along with his bodyguard, Sonora state police said Friday.

Adalberto Padilla and bodyguard Ivan Sepulveda were shot Thursday night while traveling in a police vehicle. The assailants were described as men inside an SUV who opened fire with AK-47 assault rifles, the weapon of choice for Mexico’s drug cartels.

A 16-year-old bystander was wounded during the attack in the city just across the border from Nogales, Arizona."

SNIPPET: "In other drug-related violence, a local police chief and his brother were found decapitated in the northern state of Nuevo Leon, bordering Texas.

The Agualeguas municipal chief and his brother were discovered after state police received a telephone call early Friday about a patrol vehicle abandoned near a village more than 100 kilometers (60 miles) west of Monterrey, Nuevo Leon’s capital, state Attorney General Alejandro Garza y Garza said.

The killers used the victims’ blood to paint the patrol vehicle with the initials “CDG,” signifying Cartel del Golfo, or Gulf cartel, one of Mexico’s most powerful drug outfits."

Jihadis have been known to use non-jihadis to assist them in accomplishing their various endeavors, but that is not the norm.

As if it isn't already? I wouldn't set foot in Mexico much less live near it.

So, is the beheadings a Aztec roots thing, or what? That is what I am trying to figure out.

If it wasn’t drugs; it would be something else.

What?
Gambling? Legalize.
Prostitution? Legalize.

Why do you have to impose your moral views on things people want?
All these things were legal for America's first century or so.
Criminals had to content themselves with robbing banks and trains or running for office because nothing much was outright illegal.

I'm for going back to 1876.

I agree. If it doesn’t involve hurting anybody but yourself, it should be legal. This makes you and I more libertarian than most on FR.

Illegality is where the money comes into play, and without the big-money motive the violence would disappear.

Sincerely, those police chiefs (for the most part) are very brave in deed.

The drug cartels battle not only the law, but also each other, if possible even more viciously.

Some significant percentage of the cops killed by the cartels are killed because they're working for a different cartel, not because they're trying to enforce the law even-handedly.

I don't mean to imply that necessarily for these gentlemen, but extreme corruption has always been a major fact of Mexican life.

A cop is often given the choice of "silver or lead." Take the bribe and work for the cartel, or be killed along with his entire family, the neighbors, etc. Not too many people would refuse under those conditions.

It’s a drug thing. Intimidation tactice. It is horrifying. Thanks to the idiots in DC who push the stupid drug war. Think they would have learned after prohibition.

What’s it like in Tucson? Do many of these shady characters roam the streets of the Tucson area?

Mexican family values don't end at the border.

This is what is coming to the United States, folks.
