The strife between Israel and the United States concerns something far bigger than the proximity talks with the Palestinians. As far as President Barack Obama and his senior advisers are concerned, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is to blame for nothing less than damaging the standing of the U.S.in the Middle East and the Muslim world.
Just as Netanyahu received his standing ovation at the AIPAC conference, Obama and his advisers were ruminating over an altogether different convention - the Arab League begins a meeting Tripoli on Saturday. For the Americans, Netanyahu's Likudnik speech and the Shpeherd Hotel project matched in embarrassment the scandalous announcement of construction in East Jerusalem during Vice President Joe Biden's visit here.

Put a pair of boxing gloves on’em and let them go after it.
I put my money on Bi-Bi.
Didn’t Obama invite 40 muslim nations to the WhiteHouse in April?
Build some apartments in a disputed area - Israel is hurting peace efforts - rockets raining down on them from Gaza - not so much ...
BeBe should come over here and speak to a tea party crowd. He would get a thunderous standing ovation. That would put the American Jew in a conundrum.
Buh Bye Obango!
expect anything less from a closet muzzie?
Point of no return? What in the heck does that mean? Obama gonna invade Israel and force a regime change?
From your lips to God’s ear...
Ditto!
Great idea.
That is the US’s new coalition of the willing and the US’s new identity. Israel now up against the new coalition.
Boy, this article gives a pretty harsh portrait of Bibi. What Obama has done is give the Arabs a extra foot in the door in Jerusalem. The Muslims weren’t complaining about Israeli building in Jerusalem. It’s been going on for years. But, they are following Obama’s lead and now making it an issue and will never let go, forever. Now, control of Jerusalem is now a much more imminent flashpoint than it was. Thanks 0, way to stir up the natives. But then, that’s been his style everywhere.
Bibi needs to tell the “messiah” to stuff it.
Barack to endorse the final solution I guess.
Well, if it is the point of no return, Israel needs to proceed in its own best interests, and write the USA off as a hostile power.
Its a leftist newspaper I think
Obviously this episode is playing very differently in the mideast???
This has the not so vague stench of the State Department’s handling of Honduras. They’re pulling for the lefty or Palestinians in this case, they assign little value to our traditional allies but are afraid to go at them directly and are cowed by principled resistance, so they get snarky and passive-aggressive.
I believe Bibi probably knows how to deal with punks, which is the situation here. I don’t think O can whiz any higher than Bibi’s shoes.
I think Akiva Eldar, the writer of this article, has it wrong, because I think even this congress will stand with Israel against Obama.
I know of nobody among my friends, coworkers, neighbors, any associates or acquaintances who is even remotely irritated with Israel or with Netanyahu.
