“Why is it so hard to believe that Sarah Palin is smart enough to understand what she is doing, and honest enough to be telling the truth? “

Direct quote from Palin:

“Long before the summer of 2008, I respected the man known as the ‘maverick of the Senate.’”

I believe she is telling the truth. You can have her.

“Palin expands her position on Illegal Immigration”

She’s between a rock and a hard place with McAmnesty. She could have called him out on amnesty - and mebbe not been invited back to the other appearances. That would have taken some chutzpah - something we’ve seen before in Sarah Barracuda - but not this week. Too bad really. She’s going to need to win a massive number of conservatives back over, who are currently scratching their heads about her.

Go JD!
http://www.jdforsenate.com/?p=3274 - he’s pitching for a million dollar March money bomb. Give if you can. Sarah, can you give some dollars to JD from your massive book sales to conservatives in the past 6 months? Ouch...

Also, to register a multi-candidate PAC, you must show that you have multiple donors, and that you have given money to at least 3 candidates. Her initial filing included money from candidates, and pac payments out to those candidates, to meet her “3 candidate rule”.

The real question is why she had to go to Lindsay to do this, why couldn’t she find some good conservative senator to make this arrangement with.

“Why is it so hard to believe that Sarah Palin is smart enough to understand what she is doing, and honest enough to be telling the truth?”

That’s the problem - she knows full well what she’s doing - and we’re all scratching our heads, as 95% of the other things she’s done are consistent with grass roots conservatism. Forget about embarassment - I’ll call it disappointment and inconsistency - something we’ve got WAY too much of from our elected officials.

Mebbe Sarah can stay on the book trail for quite a while and get that principled stand fire back in her belly.

“She was paying him back for his donation that was part of the process of activating her new PAC.”

I didn’t read about this. She was returning his gift (giving it back?), or something else?

Mitt Romney should not be receiving this aggressive assistance at freerepublic

Oh yes, because free republic is just so full of wonderful positive stories of Romney, and we just have to stop it somehow.

Maybe you didn't notice that every thread has a strong possibility of including an advertisement against Mitt Romney.

If I supported Romney, the last thing I'd do is post ANY story about him here at FR -- it's like stirring the hornet's nest. And in fact, the only "good stories" I see here about Romney are posted by his opponents, so they can ridicule whatever good thing the story says about him.

I see the first post by rab has been deleted. To be clear, that is the post that got the ire up of many on this thread.

Rab's "FUSP" goes over the top. Mosdt of us agree that McCain should be toast but getting this ugly towards Sara Palin lets us know who the real target is.

Jim asked the Sara bashers to take it to another site and rab's "FUSP" post should ensure that he do just that!

I didn’t read about this.

I've seen that assertion made by Palin apologists repeatedly. They never give a source though.

Absolutely. Aligning in any way with McLame and Graham cracker are critical political errors by Sarah Barracuda...hard work lies ahead. We can’t afford compromise and critical errors. We need principled leadership. Sarah can always return to the camp, a changed woman - down the road a piece.

Marco Rubio
Paul Ryan
Mike Pence
Jim DeMint
Michelle Bachmann
Pat Toomey
James Watkins (1st CD, Wa ST, R candidate to knock over Jay Inslee)

I’m sure there are other principled leaders on this list.

While we’re talking about Conservatism - we really need to do something about CPAC, and that stupid straw poll of theirs.

Talk about an embarassment.

SO far as I can tell, her view about the problem is a lot like mine was two years ago; of course, I’m not the most anti-immigrant poster here. I do however think we should start by sending every illegal back home, now that we don’t need them since we have 17 million americans out of work or underemployed.

I think SP is getting caught in the power games of the old GOP. That’s a shame and I think it’s a mistake. I guess someone can try to make a case otherwise.

I think she still has a principled stand. I just think that some of her supporters aren't fully aware of what her principles are, because they are stuck in a world where they want 100% fealty to their view of conservatism, and they also want a candidate they can support, so they kind of make a "virtual Sarah Palin" who matches what they WANT in a candidate, and then try to explain away all the evidence that the REAL Sarah Palin doesn't match their virtual Sarah Palin.

And eventually, some act like Palin has let them down, or has changed her tune, simply because she doesn't conform to the virtual Palin they created.

I think Palin is remarkably consistant, and believe she has the same views now she did 3 years ago. I just think some people are taking a long time accepting them.

And since she seems clearly to be more pragmatic, and since I tend to like a little pragmatism, I find myself liking her more and more, even while others seems to be getting turned off by her.

Don't get me wrong, I wish there was a perfect candidate out there, but I don't see one, and I think a lot of conservatives make one up so they don't have to admit they are being pragmatic in their choices.

There are a half dozen posters who incapable of arguing points, so they slander others who disagree with them, instead of using intellectual discourse, and posting facts. These are the people who call other “Romney-bots” and “Paultards”. Even if there is no evidence whatsoever to back the slander up.

I generally agree with your thoughtful remarks about pragmatism. But don’t you have a hard time with her connections with McCain and Graham? Isn’t fighting those two and others like ‘em EXACTLY what these primaries are all about? She doesn’t have a dog in that hunt!?

did you know that McCain, who served in the military, was a maverick? AND he marverickly made maverick actions in a mavericky way along the path of a maverick?

....and by the way, even though he is for illegal alien amnesty, pro-homosexual marriage, pro-big government spending, he is REaaaaaaaaaly a conservate. (stop laughing, really he is a conservative. just as his poofy campaign manager)

I followed the Reagan admin., and Congress, studiously in the 80s. You can "LOL" all you wish, as it's obvious you haven't a clue about that time span and rely on Mark Levin for your political edification.
Now, I will again state a fact: whatever he is now, McCain, in the 80s, as a Rep. and as a Sen. was a stalwart conservative.
