RIYADH, Saudi Arabia – Saudi Arabia has arrested 113 suspected al-Qaida members accused of planning attacks on oil facilities inside the kingdom, the Interior Ministry said Wednesday.
Many of those arrested had come to Saudi Arabia on visas to visit holy sites or by sneaking across its borders, but wanted to join and organize attacks with al-Qaida.
Saudi Arabia has aggressively pursued militants since a series of attacks inside the country that began in May 2003. The country is the birthplace of al-Qaida leader Osama bin Laden and home to 15 of the 19 Sept. 11 hijackers.
The arrests were the first to be announced since August, when Saudi authorities said they had rounded up 44 al-Qaida-linked militants in a yearlong sweep.

Reuters reported Wednesday that oil-exporting heavyweight Saudi Arabia has detained dozens of nationals and Yemeni militants accused of plotting attacks on oil facilities and other infrastructure.
The militants were organized in three cells and were a leading concern following a failed December bombing on a US-bound plane claimed by the Yemen-based regional al-Qaeda wing, Reuters said.
Two of the cells were suspected of planning an attack on oil facilities in the east of the country and one included a Yemeni national described by security officials as a prominent member of al-Qaeda, the report noted.
“We seized belts of explosives which they were planning to use in suicide attacks,” one security official, quoted by Reuters, said.
The dates of the arrests were not disclosed.

This is just for show..The Saudi’s protect the terrorist..maybe these people they arrested are just citizens that did come there as tourist..I do not trust these people any more than I trust their son Obama..Read below..
Saudi Arabia remains the world’s leading source of funds for al-Qaida and other extremist groups, according to the Bush administration’s top financial counter-terrorism official. Stuart Levey, a Treasury undersecretary, told the Senate Finance Committee on Tuesday that the Saudi government has not taken sufficient steps to stem the flow of money to terrorist organizations or to bar wealthy citizens from funding extremism through charitable contributions. “Saudi Arabia today remains the location where more money is going to terrorism, to Sunni terror groups and to the Taliban than any other place in the world,” Level told the committee.
Committee member Ron Wyden, an Oregon Democrat, said the Saudi failure to cut off terrorist funding means that Americans who pay more than $100 a barrel for Saudi oil are in fact bankrolling extremism because wealthy Saudi’s “back-door” their profits into charities that fund extremists, the Los Angeles Times reported.
