Democrats in Congress are pushing for a new law that would allow nearly four million people currently banned from voting to cast their ballot, and most of those millions, studies show, will vote Democrat.
And where will these new voters come from?
From the ranks of convicted felons.
Last week, a House subcommittee heard testimony on H.R. 3335, the "Democracy Restoration Act." The bill seeks to override state laws , which vary in how they restrict when convicted felons released from prison can vote.
The bill, sponsored by Rep. John Conyers, D-Mich., and sponsored in the Senate by Sen. Russell Feingold, D-Wis., states, "The right of an individual who is a citizen of the United States to vote in any election for federal office shall not be denied or abridged because that individual has been convicted of a criminal offense unless such individual is serving a felony sentence in a correctional institution or facility at the time of the election."
Advocates of the bill trumpet it as a civil rights issue and a matter of freedom, while pointing out that a disproportionate number of black and Hispanic Americans have been disenfranchised by laws restricting felons from voting.
Critics call it another example of the federal government overstepping its constitutional powers to squash state sovereignty and point out that the laws don't discriminate against minorities, for the statistics simply reflect the disproportionate numbers of black and Hispanic Americans convicted of crime.
Critics have also hinted that the law is politically convenient for Democrats.

Tea party needs to pour cold tea on these schemes.
I guess convicted felons don’t ever need to find jobs.
Or worry about being laid off if they do.
As far as I am concerned after taking bribes and pay-offs for their votes half the Democrats in Congress should be convicted felons.
Lay off poor John already. He's just trying to make sure his wife can still vote for him.
Looks like they might be walking a slippery slope with this one. If this passes and is upheld by the courts, by the same logic, “a civil rights issue and a matter of freedom” any felon released from prison should get their 2nd amendment right to own a gun reinstated.
Conyers is the same constitutional illiterate that was quoting saying the "Good and Welfare Clause Authorizes Congress to Force Americans to Buy Health Insurance".
The Constitution makes the Electoral College vote the business of Congress. However, the Congress is not empowered by the Constitution to direct the states how to conduct voting as long as the states observe amendments 15, 19, and 24.
To add to the folly in Congress this constitutional putz is the House Judiciary Committee Chairman.
bttt
They are just working to support their base.
All demwits can be divided into two groups: idoits and felons (convicted and yet to be convicted)
It is perfectly natural for unconvicted felons to seek the votes of convicted felons. Why not? They are essentially in the same line of work. People tend to vote for people like themselves.
That makes sense. Even though Obama hasn’t been convicted of his massive crimes against America, he must sympathize with murderers, rapists, and other criminals who like him impose their will on those they can overpower.
Ill-chosen headline, which isn't at all unusual for WND. But the content is interesting nonetheless.
Personally, I'm of the opinion that if one has served all of one's time, and/or additional requirements and is no longer under probation or parole, you get all your rights back. If one could be deemed as too dangerous to have firearms anymore, why let them out? Either you are a free individual again, or you are not, no middle ground.
Always watch what the other hand is doing....they are deceptive and will fight from multiple fronts, many times from hidden areas.
not all felons will vote Dem but most will
not because they are felons but because they are black or latino more disporportionately
white felons will vote their region
The Feds do not agree with Idaho.
Convicted of a federal crime and you get no federal voting or gun rights back short of now a president’s pardon.
The GOP Congress pulled funding for the 1968 GCA felon firearms waiver review in 1994 and SCOTUS pulled the right of lower court judges to grant gun permits to federal felons on a case by case application too in Federal courts.
