"There is non-controversial stuff here like the preexisting conditions exclusion and those sorts of things," the Texas Republican said. "Now we are not interested in repealing that. And that is frankly a distraction."

Well, the GOP has some ignoramuses in it, that’s obvious.
Their feet need to be held to the fire.
Not only did he endores Crist he will do everything possible to hurt Marco in the generl election. Cornyn is bought.
What these idiot political animals need to say is, we’ll repeal this monster bill then, if there was any part of it that was beneficial to Americans, we will off a CLEAN BILL with that benefit in it. No special deals or earmarks, just the benefit in question.
Utter ignorance is correct. Why ever buy insurance for anything if you can just get it AFTER the bad thing happens?
If you keep pre-existing conditions, you must accept the mandate to carry coverage and, by extension, subsidies for the poor.
If you accept those, you might as well go to single-payer.
I hate to say it but the pre-existing conditions provision in this bill has broad appeal. Trying to overturn that will be detrimental to the overall effort of repealing the bad stuff. There may be a better way to implement the concept such as using the high risk pools that have been discussed, but ultimately there needs to be some way for people with pre-existing conditions to purchase insurance at a reasonable price.
Don’t let the perfect be the enemy of the good. The most important thing right now is for the Republicans to take back control of the Congress this year so we can put an end to the socialist hysteria that has gripped Washington. Then we can work on improvements from there.
I guess some haven’t learned their lessons....or they are members of the wrong party.
This is a recipe for a Third Party.
We talking RINONONONONONO.
I agree with all of you about the pre-existing condition issues, but for better or for worse, they apparently decided to try to neutralize the emotional appeal the left put out re: pre-Ex conditions, and it is a political tactic- like i said for better or for worse, but it isnt due to a lack of comprehension of what a pre-ex c. is to the insurance industry.
"Hell, probably AFTER, too"
That's precisely why contributions to the NRSC are sharply down.
Cornyn doesn’t speak for the party. Only the Senatorial Committee. So the headline is misleading...probably intentionally.
Hah, the Repubs in their DC perches are already starting to cave. By November they will be telling us how great Health Care is. Bunch of spineless wimps.
It really wouldn’t be insurance, it would be a maintenance plan.
Sen. John Cornyn (R., Texas) told HuffPo today that Republicans won't run on an across-the-board repeal of new health-care laws.
“Why ever buy insurance for anything if you can just get it AFTER the bad thing happens?”
Because that is really not in the bill. It involves babies, I believe.
the Republicans will support the bill because it is the fascist/compassionate conservative model.
There is no peculiar part of the bill that means it is not anything other than a blowout for the health industry.
He has got to go.
I agree with that! Bought and paid for! Texans need to remember that when he is up for reelection in 2014 — same year as Lindsey Graham.
Cornyn, you dumb bastard!!!!!!!
John Cornyn, April 14, 2009 - "I believe that Senator Specter is our best bet to keep this Senate seat in the GOP column. A vote for Arlen Specter is a vote for denying Harry Reid and the Democrats a filibuster-proof Senate...My job as head of the NRSC is to guide the GOP back to a majority in the Senate. I can't do that without Arlen Specter."
John Cornyn, April 28, 2009 - "Senator Specter's decision today represents the height of political self-preservation. While this presents a short-term disappointment, voters next year will have a clear choice to cast their ballots for a potentially unbridled Democrat super-majority versus the system of checks-and-balances that Americans deserve."
