Cornyn: GOP Won't Run on Full Repeal (Disgusting)
National Review Corner ^ | 03/23/10 | Daniel Foster

Posted on 03/23/2010 2:09:54 PM PDT by Recovering_Democrat

"There is non-controversial stuff here like the preexisting conditions exclusion and those sorts of things," the Texas Republican said. "Now we are not interested in repealing that. And that is frankly a distraction."

The pre-existing condition exclusion will not bankrupt the insurance industry. It will require insurance companies to raise everyone else’s rates to compensate for the high risk insureds they must take onto the rolls. It’s a societal safety net, plain and simple.

That is where the 32 million new customers come in to spread the risk. The insurance companies wanted this bill. I went to BCBS of NC website and they were for it.

I want it repealed.

Whigs were not conservative but wanted all kinds of public works, Henry Clay and Abraham Lincoln style. They just never thought about the liberalism/socialism that so entices the American people in 2010.

I just hate that insurance companies can reject people for preexisting conditions.

Life is not fair! If you know you have it, it isn't insurance. It is "someone else should pay my way"! Is everyone but me a bunch of chronically sick sissies?

“Just about the only thing I’ve heard that is in this law that I agree with is that Insurance compainies can no longer drop you for getting sick. I wasn’t even aware that sort of evil existed.”

Yes, it makes sense. But Obama, crafty devil he is, claimed it to be a reform he offers, yet it already exists in the states.

The panic over it is from people who cannot face the reality this bill is NOT an imposition on their cherished gods of big business.

“”That being said, I’d STILL have the whole law repealed and address the problems in the health insurance industry one at a time.””

Right, and the prime focus should be on the forced contracts, a freedom issue. But frankly, that force sounds good to most national Republican politicians.

My understanding of the bill is that you still have to have had some form of insurance to have your condition covered. It isn’t like you can just walk to the hospital and call your insurance later.

Is this incorrect?

I wonder if Ted Nugent would like to primary this RINO?

THROW ALL OF THE BUMS OUT OF OFFICE IN NOV.!!! I'm sure your spleen feels much better. But, other than feeling very good about it, what good will throwing "these bums" out of office do in Nov.?

The new law of the land is socialized medicine, soon to be followed by amnesty for illegals, and then cap and trade. All before Nov. elections.

"Throwing the bums out" is going to be very much like slamming the barn door shut after the horses are long gone.

There will be.....there can be.....no repeal of the now socialized healthcare system in the US. Why?

Because it is an entitlement being sold as social justice by black reps and senators. Once in place, they will never allow conservatives (or anyone else for that matter) to repeal one dot of the new law. Remember: all these folks that will be receiving handouts are voters too. Do you think for one minute they will give up their healthcare "entitlement"??

Obama has just won the 2012 election.

I understand the problems with the limitation, but holding up the high-risk pools as a shining example is wrong.

The amount they charge is insane...nobody can afford that.

If we don’t go for complete repeal on constitutional grounds, repeal it and start from scratch, repeal it and re-write it within the limits allowed by the constitution, then we are going to run for office as Thrifty Dems.

We’re Thrifty Dems. We implement the trillion dollar over-runs with a 5% discount. Vote for us. We’ll ignore the constitution for even less money than they will. We’ll break the dollar slightly less than they will. We’ll send gold to $1450 instead of $1500 like the Dems will. Vote for us. We’ll take you where the Democrats are taking you, but we’ll get there 15 minutes late. Vote for us.

I don’t think the average Texan would even recognize Cornyn if he walked in their supermarket.

Keep up the good fight and don’t get discouraged.

We Conservatives are on the right side of history, and the Democrats are on the dead wrong side. Mark my words, they will be judged by future generations with distain and abject revulsion at their utter foolishness and wickedness.

Democrats are the PARTY OF CHILD MURDERERS.

Republicans are the PARTY OF CHILD PROTECTORS.

“Never give in—
never, never, never, never,
in nothing great or small,
large or petty,
never give in
except to convictions of honour and good sense.
Never yield to force;
never yield to the apparently overwhelming might of the enemy.’’

Agreed, but taxes under this bill are not to be considered taxes.

What are they, rose petals? They sure don’t smell like roses.

“Tyranny of the majority, you betcha, but ain’t no way around it unless you want to bankrupt a tens of thousands or maybe hundreds of thousands more households each year”

There ain’t no way around bankruptcy unless we allow the federal government to step in and change the entire healthcare insurance industry into yet another giant entitlement program? if that were the case, I might as well stop paying attention to politics, tune in, turn on, drop out, and stop worrying. Because in that case nothing I currently believe in would be worthwhile. The other side would have been right all along.

...there needs to be some way for people with pre-existing conditions to purchase insurance at a reasonable price.

The key phrase here is "reasonable price". What's "reasonable"? I think that reasonable prices are those sufficient to ensure the policy issuer a profit. Others think that such premiums will be "unaffordable" (another favorite weasel-word).

The truth of the matter is that forcing insurance companies to write policies for sick people and limiting what their premiums will be is a transfer payment from the more-healthy policy buyers to the less-healthy ones. If this is what you propose then please state so explicitly.

I was waiting for this. Sadly, I expected exactly this type of thing would happen. They will nibble around the edges; but, they won't have the b***s to repeal it.

What galls me the most, though; is that through this entire process, they kept telling the Dems that the American people wanted this thing scrapped and for everyone to start over.

Now, Cornyn is saying that they won't repeal the entire thing. Yeah. Thanks for listening to us, guys.

Yesterday, Hugh Hewitt had a link on his site to the RNCC to give them donations so that Repubs could win big in November. I didn't hit the button, because the Repubs don't listen to the people supporting them, and they always support the RHINO. Cornyn has now proved me right. Yet, I'm not happy about it.

They can’t “drop you” for being sick. They can not insure you if you are already sick.

No one doubts that there needs to be something in place for PEC, but it’s not “evil” as you say, it’s business.

Of course we can keep the generosity and then you can weep for the people when insurance companies go out of business.

The difference is...a car wreck happens once and is done.

Diabetes etc. is an ongoing condition.

That is not a similar situation.

I know I am in the minority here, but forcing someone to lose insurance to cover something like that just because they lose their job (group plans already ban preexisting condition limits) or are on an individual plan is wrong.

As I understand the bill, though everything else is flawed, this still means people have to have insurance and can’t just walk into a hospital and try to get coverage after an accident etc.
