Journalists love the marketplace of ideas until people start selling ideas they find objectionable. The liberal media somehow manages to shout about its right to speak freely while demanding others be silenced.
Glenn Beck is probably the most popular target for the left's demands for censorship. Cokie Roberts and her husband Steve picked up that ball and ran with it today in their joint syndicated column. They dubbed Beck "a traitor to the American values he professes so loudly to defend" and claimed he is "corrupting the very essence of democracy." And all this just by speaking.
Unsurprisingly, the immense damage Beck is doing to the American political process can only be demonstrated anecdotally:
Steve recently took part in a lunchtime panel sponsored by a local radio station. A beefy young man in the audience grabbed the microphone and challenged the speakers, in a sneering and confrontational tone, to name one good thing about President Obama's health-care proposal.
Steve's answer: People without insurance flood hospital emergency rooms and push up medical bills for everyone. So it would be in the "national interest" to expand insurance and hold down costs.
"The national interest?" retorted the questioner in an even louder voice. "That sounds like fascism!"
We have been in this business a long time. We welcome tough questions and certainly don't believe we have all the answers. But "fascism"? That's over the line -- way over the line -- for any sensible or civilized conversation.
We don't know what the beefy guy reads or to whom he listens, but we would bet he's a disciple of Glenn Beck. The popular author and broadcaster who has turned nonstop name-calling into an art form is a big fan of the "F-word."

I don’t trust myself with a scalpel right now. People might get hurt LOL
“I swear, Im gonna get banned today if this keeps up.”
Well, I’m gonna get fired b/c I’m a teacher and trying really hard to refrain from saying ugly things in front of the kiddos....
I teach the truth (Govt, history, etc...), but I try to avoid name calling, etc...I just try to give the facts...but earlier I called Joe Biden an idiot in front of my 8th grade class....ooops....
It’s a private school.....so that will cause no problems, but, it just shows all this is making me begin to lose my self control..... *sigh*
I think Savage hit on something yesterday — right now you have a whole whitehouse full of revolutionaries, from relatively mild mannered social democrats, to trotskyites, leninites, mao worshippers, right on up to the hard core stalinites. There is no telling at this point which faction is going to come out on top, but frankly I wouldn’t bet against the mao-bites and the stalinists.
Who is Cokie Roberts? BTW, her husband looks like Dewey Cox.
Glenn spent a good deal of time refuting the comparison with father Coughlin (which I learned is pronounced Cog-lin). First of all he doesn’t hate Jews, and he isn’t for redistributing the wealth.
I posted on a facebook page that liberals are those who know themselves to be below average and want to spread the wealth around so they can be raised to average. Several second cousins immediately posted “So, where did you get the dictionary? From Beck or Limbaugh?”
I posted back “I made it up. I’m not a liberal so I don’t have to have others do my thinking for me”. Then they really went on the attack accusing me of attacking them.
There are a lot of communists in my family.
Some days you just want to put your keyboard through your monitor. Some days you want to use your fist.
I’ve asked several family members who’ve accused Beck of being wrong “What did he say that’s incorrect? Still waiting on an answer.
Stuff like facts are irrelevant. Liberals have deemed him to be of independent thought, therefore he is dangerous. That’s all we need to know.
Yes, I think that is so: anything that advances the long-term goal is satisfactory, especially after they saw how patiently Mao himself marched through the institutions (people forget he started his process in the early ‘20s). The malevolence is appalling and the determination is, well, frightening. And the thing is, under our polity, it will be the one who is seen to throw the first punch who will be penalized. So long as they don’t openly assault someone, they can keep inching the goal posts further left until there’s no field left.
I guess one consideration is how to get them to lose patience and make a game-changing mistake. If they can be induced to throw the first punch, we may be able to strike back fast, before any ‘referee’ can interfere. We certainly won’t get away with trying to topple them. Either we can stall and then vote them out, which is preferable, or we have to goad them into error so we can morally fight back.
You see another alternative, maybe?
Needless to say...I don't even bother yanking the cup of Kool-Aid out of their hands. It's worthless........
As a matter of fact, the exact opposite is true according to a recent study done in Massachusetts. Roberts is an idiot.
Well, history is our guide: the most radical are the least prepared to lose, with the least to lose, so they are willing to stake it all on a throw no one else will dare to try. So ultimately, they win. The key of course, is that actual powers sit by and fail to support the moderates (if there actually are any such in the O WH worth cultivating). The maniacs will generally overcome the sensible ones, given time, so I expect the Maoists’ and Stalinists’ main problem will be figuring out if they can trust each other enough to share power.
Of course, if the sides could somehow be induced to turn on each other. Isn’t that worth a moment’s thought?
Political Correctness was designed to silence anyone from speaking out against the left wing agenda. It only protects those who are part of a left wing voting block.
Therefore, it's best to ignore the Political Correctness propaganda. It doesn't do anything for the normal American majority.
It's best to speak up loud and often - especially now that our country is under attack by it's own government.
Arguing with liberals is like clapping with one hand.
And those days have come fast and furious recently.
I left nursing when HMO’s came along...if I were still working in a hospital I think I’d just stroke out.
I saw Cokie Roberts back in 1994 when she was giving a commencement speech at Boston College.
One one of the worst speeches I ever had to sit through. And I have sat through Ted Kennedy and John Kerry speeches.
“her husband looks like Dewey Cox”.....
HA!!! I swear, I knew his face looked familiar!!!! seriously, I was like....I know I’ve seen that face before.... you nailed it.....LOL
