Members of the House of Representatives tonight approved President Obamas health care agenda, the biggest expansion of government power since the Great Society. The Obama health care legislation is universal in scope and will profoundly impact the personal lives of more than 300 million Americans.
It will restrict our personal freedom while undercutting the independence and authority of the several states.
This unprecedented congressional action will give Washington control over the content of health benefits packages; the kind of health insurance available to Americans and the organization and regulation of health insurance markets.
This has been accompanied by one of the most shocking Congressional exhibition of arrogance and special interest deal-making in memory.
In 1774, in response to the first Tea Party, the British Parliament issued a series of acts designed to control the colonists, stop their protests and restrict their liberty. The Americans called these The Intolerable Acts.
Obamacare is todays Intolerable Act. In poll after poll, in town hall meetings, in popular protests and in special elections, ordinary Americans have declared their firm opposition to this scheme, only to be derisively dismissed.
This imposition of legislation is intolerable for two reasons:
* Process: The outrageous way in which this massive restructuring of one six of the economy has been pushed through.
* Substance: Huge obligation shifted to future generations, a huge lurch toward European-style welfare states.
The Heritage Foundation will have a full answer to Congress action tomorrow and in the days and weeks and months to come.
We will do all within our power to recommend, and make the intellectual case for, the repeal of these acts.
We will help marshal the full resources of the conservative movement for this cause. You can join the fight to keep America the Land of the Free today
Fortunately, there are no permanent victories or defeats in Washington. For millions of Americans and for Heritage, Round One of this fight is over. Tomorrow morning, we are answering the bell.
Look for mergers and acquisitions to pick up dramatically as the health care insurance companies look for high ground.
We are five days away from fundamentally transforming the United States of America. -BO
“They’ll just nationalize insurance companies...no more private insurance...next!”
That will take a couple of years I would think for the companies to be so far gone that they will need a GM-style takeover. Maybe not.
It will be a tax or fee...you do pay taxes just for living in this country don't you? The IRS will come knocking at your door if you don't won't they? National Insurance Fee....new block coming to your paycheck deductions soon...
I am outraged at even the THOUGHT of ANY government takeover of business but haven't you gone a bit over the top by claiming a 48% takeover?
Yep the plan is going just according to schedule....
Yes I agree, that is the plan, but that is not the legislation that Obama is going to sign into law. And what Obama is going to sign is clearly unconstitutional and will be tossed by the Supreme Court in a 6 to 3 vote.
Mike Ross.
Not in this sense I don’t. If I don’t buy I don’t pay sales tax. If I earn no or little income I don’t pay income tax. If I don’t own a property I don’t pay a property tax. Not easy, but not infeasible. All these taxes are predicated upon choices I make. This one would NOT be.
Well, we obviously don’t to any degree agree with them on the abortion issue at all, which is sad.
But we have to have a joining of the minds against fascism, with them. They are so upset that the dems have screwed this up so badly and laid down with the corporate interests of the insurance companies. I can’t believe I could have been suckered into believing that the insurance companies were enemies of the democrats, they are in bed with them, this is so disgusting. We are being governed by corporate fascists, they are linked up now.
Of course, those folks over there are really po’d about the public option being dropped. They are single payer supporters to the nth degree, and that’s where we part company. But I am amazed how easily some of us have been duped into believing that the insurance companies are innocent bystanders.
We have to find common cause where we can and kick these whores to the curb. They don’t think too many good thoughts about the Republican party either, but are not supporting the democrats on the individual mandate AT ALL and concede that the R’s are going to slaughter the D’s this fall on that issue alone.
I’m not sure if it added up to 48%, but on another thread someone had mentioned that Obama has effectively taken over the healthcare industry (17%), automobile (xx%) and banking (xx%). I think the auto and banking were each closer to 10% though (I might be wrong) - so 38% or so????
Davis and Tanner from Tn both voted no. They think they pulled one on us. They were undecided till today. Just till they found out if Piglosi needed their votes. Now they think they can come back here and get reelected. They are gone come November!

Thank him!
You know of anyone "on the books" who is not paying any federal fees or taxes??? Believe me this is one they will make sure you pay. Remember that "civilian security force" Obama alluded to in his campaign? On the horizon to enforce just such a tax/fee....if one thinks the IRS is bloodthirsty now wait until all this settles in a comes in force. You ain't seen nothing yet.
That’s the point. Other taxes kick in only for DOING something. If elf care were nationalized it would be the first tax that the gummit is attempting to levy for EXISTING. It does not belong with the others and is almost certainly unconstitutional.
Before thanking him, better find out if he was oked to vote no because Piglosi didn’t need his vote. Good clue is if he was undecided up until recently.
We will have to ignore scotus at some point unless they want to join the fray with both feet and a side arm..
