First term Democrat Nye voting against health care bill (BIG "NO" PICKUP!)
Hampton Roads ^ | 3-20-10 | Bill Bartel

U.S. Rep. Glenn Nye announced Saturday night he is voting against against the Democratic health care bill today, saying it doesn’t do enough to lower the cost of health care.

“Over the past year, I have spoken with countless small business owners, families, medical professionals, and average citizens across Virginia’s 2nd District, and it became very clear that this bill was not the right solution for Virginia’s health care challenges,” Nye said in a written statement. “There were many strong points in this bill that I would have been happy to support individually, but the package as a whole had serious problems.”

I agree but I would love to see the House vote No tomorrow. My fear is the votes have been bought and these Southern dems are just being let off the hook...Stupak is a Democrat first and a Christian 49th or 50th down the line..

Why did he wait so long to announce? Don't get me wrong, I am glad he is a "no", but given his statement, he should have reached this decision weeks ago.

You’re not quite getting the numbers here. Why are they dicking around with executive orders on abortions and trying to woo the Stupak group if they have the numbers? Seems to me it would be easier to make a truly intended “Yes” vote go “Yes” rather than try to placate the pro life and pro abortion groups at the same time.

The No’s have always been ahead or they would have voted on it long ago. FYI

There aren’t as many votes in the process as last time. This was a big get as are the reports of Loretta Sanchez going No.

Think this was a maybe to a no on the Hill’s count. This puts them one vote from being able to block with 19 more uncommitted votes. (Assuming the Hill’s tally is accurate)

Yes, and now Dem leaders in the House cannot contact Sanchez; she seems to be ignoring their calls.

According to thehill.com there are now 37 definite and likely no's with 20 undecided, to defeat the bill we would only need 1 more of the undecideds (without losing any of the no's). Nye is a BIG defection, he was considered a likely yes.

If you see Pelosi quickly pull the bill and postpone the vote tomorrow, we will know she doesn't have the votes.

Loretta Sanchez voting NO is HUGE as far as I’m concerned. We see a lot of her here in LA, I always considered her a big time flaming lib, for her to vote NO is a huge shock. No wonder the Organizing For America drones were emailing their supporters telling them to call Sanchez and tell her to vote yes, that must mean they don’t have the votes, otherwise why would they be so desperate to have her vote

This along with Matheson and Space coming out against it has Pelosi short by 4 votes according to Stupack.

It will pass by one vote so the maximum number of democrats can vote no.

No. If it passes - which I doubt - it will be by 3-4 votes. If it's a one vote margin, every Republican running against a Democrat incumbent will say that their opponent was the deciding vote on Health Care.

It breaks one of two ways; it passes by 3-4 votes, or doesn't pass by 15. Once wavering Dems see 216 "No" votes, they will join in voting "No".

JMHO

Sanchez was a late Yes last November. I think if Davis from TN goes no again, this thing is going to go for the good guys. I expect Baird and Tanner to cave.
