Sarah Palin Asking for Over $1 Million Per Episode for Reality Show.

The project, which is tentatively titled Sarah Palin’s Alaska. Palin is asking for $1 million to $1.5 million per episode.

Sarah Palin is following a trajectory more Kardashian than politician, demanding a big paycheck in her quest for reality-TV stardom. After shopping her “TV docudrama” to major broadcast and cable networks, two channels — A&E and Discovery — have expressed interest in the project, which is tentatively titled Sarah Palin’s Alaska. Palin is asking for $1 million to $1.5 million per episode, considered a “hefty amount for a first-year cable series.” The show — executive-produced by reality-television guru Marc Burnett — will feature the former governor touring her home state, completing activities such as visiting fishing boats or trekking to a gold mine. There had better be a caribou-hunting episode or else this really has no business calling itself a Sarah Palin Alaska show.

If I win the lottery, I would. Having spent the Winter Solstice on the shore of the Arctic Ocean, my fascination with all things Alaskan is complete. It's the only place on Earth like it.

Even I like Alaska and am intrigued by it. Yet, the revenue they would need to generate to support not just her salary but the show itself would be awfully high. I just don't see the support for it.

Nope—to be a presidential candidate or president, you’ve gotta be conversant on dozens and dozens of tricky international situations.

Your plant manager knew how to talk budgets and trends in his part of the industry and competitive situations.

Congressional staff salaries can cost more than that a year.

Palin's not picking the taxpayers' pockets.

You can bet the advertisers would be expected to shell out substantial amounts because of Palin.

They have to hate her. She actually is all the things Obama pretends to be. I think she even has a birth certificate.

Current events would indicate that's not necessary.

But appearing in reality TV is a frivolous pursuit.

Exactly. It's her life, and her business. If she wants (diminishing) returns as a celebrity, go for it. If she wants to be POTUS, beef up the credentials with a serious book about Alaska and energy policy there.

Either be taken seriously, or taken lightly. Get on the road to the White House, or get in the dunking cage.

It costs a lot to produce any show for TV. She will probably net a couple hundred thousand.

Ahhh my question is that isn't Sarah Palin a private citizen and as such be allowed to capitalize on her appeal. What happens in the future is just that, the future. I notice that the media is treating this like she's out just for the money and ‘’see we told you so, she's not a viable contender’’. Her daughter's father, on the other hand is still allowed to swagger his stick

i say sarah can make all the mula she wants.

but she has blown her cover — she’s concluded that she can’t ever win so it’s time to rake in the cash with a very cynical exploitation of he shallow image and damn the Republicans!

time to start seriously searching for a serious candidate ...

It seems like she’s eager to show her old tribe in Alaska that she’s still working for and loyal to them.

I find the tough Alaskan culture to be exotic and interesting, but I really think she’s worn out the cuteness in her boosting the state while asking to be taken seriously as a national pol. She uses up a lot of her interview time talking about Alaska rather than about actual issues.

So I think in a couple of ways this venture takes her away from a serious candidacy in 2009. Rove was right, she can be a formidable and qualified candidate in ‘12, but to do so she’s got to use these last 8-9 months up to the start of the campaign wisely. I don’t think this is either a wise use of time or wise branding for a ‘12 presidential campaign.

O.K., so what? Private citizens can demand whatever they think their involvement in such an enterprise is worth.

And let me guess, it’s O.K. for the Hollywood crowd to demand the big bucks for their shows but not for Sarah Palin?

I don't know how you figure that. She's asking for a salary of 1 to 1.5 million per show. The company will produce it. They are going to have to generate ten times that in revenue to break even.

I remember Ronald Reagan hosted ‘Death Valley Days’ depicting stories of the Old West. Go Sarah!

BINGO!!!

Can “Mitt Romney’s Massachusetts” or “Tim Pawlenty’s Minnesota” be far behind?

I'm with you. I spent some time in Anchorage and Wasilla on a project in 2006, ironically, when Sarah was first running for governor. I fell in love with Alaska during my time there, and would move there in a heartbeat if only Mrs. VR would agree to it, which she won't.

Sigh.

I think you may be right. She and Bristol seem genuinely bitten by the celebrity bug as well. Too bad.

DeMint and Ryan have ruled themselves out and the other heavy-weight congressmen probably don’t have the charisma to go national from that level. So we’re probably back to looking at the governors again. Can a charisma-challenged governor like Daniels work as an unObama? I don’t know.
