According to the official site of the House Rules Committee, questions of privilege relate to matters affecting the safety, dignity or integrity of the House, or the rights, reputation or conduct of a member acting as a representative.
House leaders are poised to use a procedural tactic of questionable constitutionality to move the single most consequential piece of legislation in over seven decades through the House without a vote. Heres the idea: (1) pass a rule to bring to the floor a reconciliation measure that would detoxify certain provisions in the Senate-passed health-reform bill, and (2) insert in the rule a sentence that deems the Senate bill to have passed the House.

We need people with the fortitude to exhaust all possibilities, I wonder if we have any in congress!
This sounds like a perfect gambit for Paul Ryan, Eric Cantor, or Boehner to take as soon as the Dims attempt to take their vote on the Reconciliation bill that “deems” the Senate bill already passed.
I hope the actual vote is heavily covered live and that the history from this article and the shameful pay-raise fiasco of the Dims in the 80’s House is explained ahead of time.
Thinking of gambits, I’m surprised I haven’t heard anyone — like the Idaho Governor — suggesting that there are more than the 2/3rds of the States ready to call for an Article V Constitutional Convention to consider an Amendment banning mandates on citizens to purchase any good or service. A Convention would not need to wait for November when we’ll have a mess to try to repeal.
37 States are considering laws to challenge any healthcare mandates specifically, but unfunded mandates on the States and now unfunded mandates on individuals clearly need to be addressed in a way Congress can’t dismiss.
......”Raising such questions of privilege would be a dramatic procedural countermove and would require every member to let their constituents know in advance of the final vote exactly how they feel about this process. And there is precedent for it”.....
Do they know they can try this? I know they have all kinds of attorneys etc. working at this but things get lost in the cracks of the system.......I doon’t know any one close enough to send this out to....maybe some of you do just to be certain they know...or maybe Hannity or Fox
The left would gut the Constitution they now just ignore
.
If they get the 216, and they are now 14 away from that number, per Code Red’s count, there won’t be any need of Slaughter House Rule.
Note the walking-distance metro stop. Park anywhere and ride the metro in.
Or drive around the Capitol and gridlock traffic while honking thousand of car horns.
Does anyone have a list of those 37 states?
Without doubt, this is the most dangerous idea I have ever seen on FreeRepublic. What makes you think this batch of clowns would EVER stay within the constraints of the purpose of said convention?
The founders didn't do it.
Rather than hold another Constitutional Convention, what would stop 2/3’s of State Houses from passing a law that explicitly bans the Federal Government from confiscation of their wealth and property for the purchase of a Health Care Service that then get handed out to ALL people who are in America?
Pass another Amendment to the Constitution that makes it illegal to enforce this Health Care law.
We could call it the Freedom from Federal Tyranny Amendment that PREVENTS the Government from EVER controlling our lives thru “Health Care”.
Actually, they didn't vote on the Slaughter rule, they voted on a GOP proposal to prohibit the use of the Slaughter rule. In essence, the vary "point of order" tactic the author suggests. In other words, been there, done that.
The GOP has tactically few options left, and pretty much none legislatively. The best they can really do is to continue to focus public pressure on both the bill and the process, and be ready to take it to court if Pelosi can force it through somehow.
I don’t think it will matter b/c they’ll vote on the senates version and win. Then the Senate bill will be signed and become law - maybe changes later.
The stink I wanna make is about the bribes that enticed said votes - that’s obviously a question of priviledge too.
just sayin...
then in nov we win enough to prosecute and put the bastards in jail.
“then in nov we win enough to prosecute and put the bastards in jail.”
I doubt it. Time and again, the lame-ass Republicans have chosen to sit by and let the Democrats get away with any corrupt activities they want without saying a word, either because they themselves are corrupt as well, or because they figure it’s just “unseemly” to be seen attacking their counterparts on the other side of the aisle.

They’ve been ignoring the constitution for soem time now, what make you think they will start following it if we add another amendment that ties their hands?

1/2 the Republicans are just as rotten as the Democrats, and the other Half have bought into “ethics and civility” that the Democrats have been drilling into public conciousness for the last 40 years. The same “ethics and civility” that the Democrats say we should all practice, but they themselves do not as it would tie their hands. We need to stop letting the other side define the rules of enguagement.
If 37 States rise up for a Con-con,an amendment easing the way for recall of wayward legislators should be on the table. (That exercise is currently problematic for elected Feds...)
The people of the United States will deem the dems to be moving targets, walking deadmen.
This deeming business is just a precursor to outright citizen revolt.
Its just like the legislative maneuvering that led up to the last civil war, involving the ratification of the states. This time it will not be the South against the North. It will be the people against the Federal Government and all of its Agencies.People will choose which side they wish, and so be adjudged between the quick and the dead.
This will turn bone ugly if the Dems do this thing of contempt and hatred for the American people.
