Sens. Charles Schumer (D-N.Y.) and Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) unveiled their bipartisan blueprint for comprehensive immigration reform Thursday, a move hailed by President Barack Obama as progress on an issue for which he has been criticized for ignoring.
The American people deserve more than empty rhetoric and impractical calls for mass deportation. We urge the public and our colleagues to join our bipartisan efforts in enacting these reforms, the Senators said in a Washington Post editorial posted online Thursday.
The Schumer-Graham outline entails four key components: a biometric Social Security identification card for employment verification; strengthened border security and interior law enforcement; a process for admitting temporary workers; and a controversial path toward citizenship for illegal immigrants currently living in the United States.
Under the proposal, employers would be allowed to hire illegal immigrants only if they were unsuccessful in recruiting Americans for open positions. Undocumented workers living in the country would have to pay fines and back taxes and perform community service in order to earn citizenship. They would also have to pass background checks and become proficient in English.
Obama called the blueprint promising and said it should be the basis for moving forward with legislation. But he stopped short of pledging to make immigration reform a reality in 2010, vowing only to to do everything in my power to forge a bipartisan consensus this year.
My administration will be consulting further with the Senators on the details of their proposal, but a critical next step will be to translate their framework into a legislative proposal, and for Congress to act at the earliest possible opportunity, Obama said.

Sadly, when it comes to this subject, we tend to focus ONLY on, generally ripping apart, republicans McCain and Graham. What we need is a full list of every Republican who have stated that they WILL side with ANY “path to citizenship” amnesty...a shorter list may be of those who WILL NOT....and those are who we need to support.
Getting sent to the ‘back of the line’ means absolutely nothing to illegals who will continue to leave here—taking full advantage—while they wait.
While many ‘threaten’ other action....a huge part of our plan for recovering this nation is wholley in the hands of our 2010/2012 elections. If these folks are given amnesty, the dynamics will change forever and we can kiss any chance we ever had goodbye.
This will thrill SC people so they can “reach out” to aliens.
I am afraid the American people would rather commit hari hari than save the Constitution.
I just don’t think SC people will ever figure things out. They were particularly influential in the nomination of John McPain.
Likely, without something drastic occurring to stop it. The mexicans aren't going to be satisfied with their taking of the Southwest. Look across the country and see they're populating areas everywhere. They want the WHOLE thing, but our politicians are too afraid to speak against illegal aliens... they've become a "third rail."
No “comprehensive” immigration reform. We all know that the Federales will just enforce the parts they like.
Defend the borders. Prove they’re secure.
THEN we can talk about the rest.
“...vowing only to to do everything in my power to forge a bipartisan consensus this year. -Obama
THIS statement scared me the most-he thinks he is a king.
“Under the proposal, employers would be allowed to hire illegal immigrants only if they were unsuccessful in recruiting Americans for open positions.”
WTF!!! As in everytime, all the time.
Thse bastards are only going to understand pitchforks.
What a bunch of traitors.
"First they take our healthcare, next they give us amnesty." That took all of 2 seconds. Rinse, wash, repeat. It ain't that hard, people.

Obama spent last week campaigning for health care reform, at one point getting some college-age fans worked up about all the free stuff free preventive care and free checkups and so forth they would receive if his version of health care reform passed.

This option would help reduce the costs of TFL, as well as costs for Medicare, by introducing minimum out-of pocket requirements for beneficiaries. Under this option, TFL would not cover any of the first $525 of an enrollees cost-sharing liabilities for calendar year 2011 and would limit coverage to 50 percent of the next $4,725 in Medicare cost sharing that the beneficiary incurred. (Because all further cost sharing would be covered by TFL, enrollees could not pay more than $2,888 in cost sharing in that year.) http://www.cbo.gov/ftpdocs/99xx/doc9925/12-18-HealthOptions.pdf

Remember they are all being offered BRIBES for their votes. Ask them how much their bribe price is.
The National Republican Congressional Committee has published a target list on health care. In addition to continuing to contact the five Tennessee Democrat Congressmen, you can go http://www.votervoice.net/link/clickthrough/ext/94697.aspx to contact some of these targets. Much of the talk following Obamas announcement has focused on how to defeat this second bill through reconciliation, but that is misleading because the first step to defeating Obamacare is not by concentrating on defeating the fixer bill but by defeating the Senate bill in the House when it goes to the floor for an up-or-down vote on Thursday, March 18th.

And here are toll-free numbers we can use to call any Senators or Reps.
At the first number below you must wait through a tape recording urging you to tell your Rep or Senator to vote yes for the health care bill. Just hang on and when the recording is over, you will get the Capitol operator. Just ask for your Rep or Senators office. Then you will either talk to an aid or have the chance to leave a message for him/her to vote NO on the health care bill.
When you use the second number and the Capitol operator comes on, just ask for your Rep or Senators office. Every time I use this number I get the Rep or Senators answer machine, so it may be set up that way all the time...to go to their answer machine. Either way you can leave a message to vote NO on the health care bill!
We need to use these toll free numbers that have been set up for the health care/ BO supporters and illegals to use! After all they are FREE!

“First they take our healthcare, next they give us amnesty
Right. I wish some Republican would request that CBO prepare an official estimate of the cost of Obamacare assuming amnesty. Indeed, this may be a way to slow this freight train down. With Obama no longer leaving the country, the “urgency” of a vote on Sunday is pure fabrication. The bill won’t even go into effect until 2014. It’s absurd to claim 1 or 2 more weeks matters.
Some wavering Dems might love the excuse to postpone their suicide votes on the reasonable grounds that Congress should be fully informed about this momentous decision. Indeed, they could argue that they fear passing this costly measure might force them to vote against amnesty in the future since it would break the bank and it wouldn’t be fair not to give these new citizens the same health care entitlement that everyone else is getting. So maybe it would make more sense to decide on the amnesty question FIRST and THEN see how much health care reform the nation can afford.
I’m getting sick of all politicians! Why don’t they seal the borders? Why don’t they deport undocumented illegals?
Bunch of lobbied spineless bureuacrats.
Lindsay Graham-nesty = Juan McCain.
Thanks Mitt, Pawlenty, Fred, Palin, Flake, Kyl, Newt and all the other stinking RINOs.
This is BS propaganda. Illegals will steal seniors and baby boomers retirement. What garbage.
There is no difference between Graham-nesty and MCCain. Many so called Republican “conservatives” are campaigning for McCain.
Thanks to McCain-Feingold we have the Dem 2006/2008 Congress and Obama.
JD Hayworth needs to beat Juan over the head with his sissy pal from SC.
Doesn't matter to me if they perform community service as long as they then have to leave the country without an amnesty.
Perhaps you meant to say the following(in bold) are the scariest parts. "Undocumented workers living in the country would have to pay fines and back taxes and perform community service in order to earn citizenship.
Yes, unbelievable.
Goober is a compromised, nut.
