WashTimes OpEd: Impeach the President?
The Washington Times ^ | Friday, March 19, 2010 | Jeffrey T. Kuhner

SNIP

Mr. Obama is imposing a leftist revolution. Since coming to office, he has behaved without any constitutional restraints. The power of the federal government has exploded. He has de facto nationalized key sectors of American life - the big banks, financial institutions, the automakers, large tracts of energy-rich land from Montana to New Mexico. His cap-and-trade proposal, along with a newly empowered Environmental Protection Agency, seeks to impose massive new taxes and regulations upon industry. It is a form of green socialism: Much of the economy would fall under a command-and-control bureaucratic corporatist state. Mr. Obama even wants the government to take over student loans.

SNIP

The Slaughter Solution is a poisoned chalice. By drinking from it, the Democrats would not only commit political suicide. They would guarantee that any bill signed by Mr. Obama is illegitimate, illegal and blatantly unconstitutional. It would be worse than a strategic blunder; it would be a crime - a moral crime against the American people and a direct abrogation of the Constitution and our very democracy.

It would open Mr. Obama, as well as key congressional leaders such as Mrs. Pelosi, to impeachment. The Slaughter Solution would replace the rule of law with arbitrary one-party rule. It violates the entire basis of our constitutional government - meeting the threshold of "high crimes and misdemeanors." If it's enacted, Republicans should campaign for the November elections not only on repealing Obamacare, but on removing Mr. Obama and his gang of leftist thugs from office.

It is time Americans drew a line in the sand. Mr. Obama crosses it at his peril.

“Gramnasty was one of the best on Impeaching Clinton, at that time”

Then you missed the backstory where he threw a fit about introducing the huge amount of evidence on Clinton’s treasonable activities with the Chinese PLA and cash contributions.

I would take Biden in the aftermath any day. I don’t think he would dare overreach to the extent obama has. obama gets a pass because he’s black.

True, but it isn’t going to happen if you don’t have the votes.

They already are because he is.

Caterpillar has released a statement today that Obama’s deathcare bill will cost the company 100 mil. the first year alone! More people are going to be losing their jobs and their health insurance (part of Obama’s evil commie plan).

His “forces” would be his merry band of Obamacore and college malcontents.

Cannon fodder for the military(who would attack them), National Guards, police and armed citizens.

"Focus on getting rid of everything that is the Left which means vote out every Leftist in office today."

There is a movement swelling up to accomplish that very thing. In less than a year, the democrats will be history.

But we would need to impeach Biden also and recall Nancy Pelosi.

Nancy is third in line to the presidency...

Let me call your attention to this little ditty:

Amendment 17 - Senators Elected by Popular Vote. Ratified 4/8/1913. History

The Senate of the United States shall be composed of two Senators from each State, elected by the people thereof, for six years; and each Senator shall have one vote. The electors in each State shall have the qualifications requisite for electors of the most numerous branch of the State legislatures.

When vacancies happen in the representation of any State in the Senate, the executive authority of such State shall issue writs of election to fill such vacancies: Provided, That the legislature of any State may empower the executive thereof to make temporary appointments until the people fill the vacancies by election as the legislature may direct.

This amendment shall not be so construed as to affect the election or term of any Senator chosen before it becomes valid as part of the Constitution.

17th Amendment

One of the most common critiques of the Framers is that the government that they created was, in many ways, undemocratic. There is little doubt of this, and it is so by design. The Electoral College, by which we choose our President, is one example. The appointment of judges is another. And the selection of Senators not by the people but by the state legislatures, is yet another. The Senatorial selection system eventually became fraught with problems, with consecutive state legislatures sending different Senators to Congress, forcing the Senate to work out who was the qualified candidate, or with the selection system being corrupted by bribery and corruption. In several states, the selection of Senators was left up to the people in referenda, where the legislature approved the people's choice and sent him or her to the Senate. Articles written by early 20th-century muckrakers also provided grist for the popular-election mill.

The 17th Amendment did away with all the ambiguity with a simple premise — the Senators would be chosen by the people, just as Representatives are. Of course, since the candidates now had to cater to hundreds of thousands, or millions, of people instead of just a few hundred, other issues, such as campaign finances, were introduced. The 17th is not a panacea, but it brings government closer to the people. The Amendment was passed by Congress on May 13, 1912, and was ratified on April 8, 1913 (330 days).

Originally, those elected to congress were to represent the interests of the people and the Senators were to defend the interests of the states. However, when it became apparent that those trusted with looking after the interests of the states were in fact looking after themselves, the 17th was proposed as a solution to rid us of thieves.

It would appear to me, that we have simular selfish persons in charge again. This time in our zeal to correct the problem, maybe, we should be a little more careful in selecting the cure, for we may kill the patient if the wrong medicine is prescribed.

You all have to remember there are millions of African Americans that will feel that”this is just another attack on a brotha”. Millions of blacks will back him up. This is his grand scheme to end the US as we know it...

In lieu of this recurring talk of civil war I feel I need to set the record straight. We have thus far never had a civil war on our soil. What we have had are two American Revolutions. After the first one, the real America, the America of our Founding Fathers, was born. After the second one, which sadly failed in its mission to uphold the intent of these founders, on April 9 1865, the real America died. What we have been living in ever since is a federalist abomination, and it is high time for a third American revolution to usher in a return to the confederalism our founders intended. But this is a war to be waged against the oppressionist federal government, not among the people.

Thanks for the background.

The problem is that so many people are powermad thugs. No laws in existence or potential laws can change the hearts of those who are self interested to the point of evil. So, what to do to improve the situation.

Got it, thanks.

I don’t think he’ll have too many “forces”. Compared to the number of regular citizens. And military etc who don’t want to support a marxist coup.
