Posted on 03/18/2010 3:34:11 PM PDT by Retired Chemist
FNC just reported that the House Reconciliation bill increases the cuts to Medicare Advantage to $220 billion. The Senate bill cuts $150 billion
Doesn’t the Senate have to vote on the new changes.
I want a president who loves our country and its people.
Obama doesn’t even like America very much.
They're talking about the Reconciliation Bill here. The Senate still has to vote on that bill, if it is to become law.
The House and Senate will NEVER cut Medicare funding, NEVER. This number goes up as Nancy’s earlier proposed tax increases are lowered. What it really means is that every time the cuts to Medicare go up in the bill the deficit only goes higher because the cuts are not going to happen. Lies, deceit and dishonesty at it’s worst.
OK thanks, thought so but wasn’t sure.
Have to disagree, they are honest about cutting Medicare. Always have been, just lied about the reasons.
The reason to cut Medicare is because that money can be transferred to the private health insurance industry to subsidize policies for under 65’s.
The Republican leadership never pushed the obvious because, frankly, grabbing money from the public till and giving it to large public entities sounds like good policies. They would call it conservative.
I’ll bet that change had to be made in order for the CBO’s numbers to come in just under 1 trillion. Wasn’t it scored at 940 billion? Without the 70 billion cut that was added here, it would have scored at 1.1 trillion, and have been dead in the water, right??
Cookin’ the books, 0bama-style!! No wonder they had to delay the CBO numbers. I’ll bet Nancy got the numbers on Tuesday (as was reported earlier), saw that they needed more cuts, and change the reconciliation language and had it re-scored.
I disagree back, there will never, ever, ever be the political will on Capitol Hill, on the part of Dems, to cut this massive amount of money from Medicare, I don’t believe a word of it.
Where’s the AARP?
Right. Purchased with stimulus money.
“I disagree back, there will never, ever, ever be the political will on Capitol Hill, on the part of Dems, to cut this massive amount of money from Medicare, I dont believe a word of it.”
Medicare doctors donate much less to politicians than private insurance industry. The bill already has triggers to make cuts. All the panels in the bill are to make lower national standards of care.
Bought out with stimulus money.
Too bad. Republicans could have made a great deal of progress. Except they went on the wild goose hunt of the public option.
Likely the Republicans will be for the bill in a few years time. They will talk about “compassionate conservatism” and public-private partnerships and criticism will be scolded as socialist, anti-American, anti-Business.
Any offers to repeal it will likely keep the most odious parts.
Obamacare will make “socialist” care in places like Japan look cheap.
Again, there will never be the political will in Washington to cut $500 billion from Medicare. Newt and the Repubs tried to cut Medicare in the 1990’s and failed miserably. Politicians are cowards and liars. Nope, not gonna happen.
“Wheres the AARP?”
They got their bribe.
“Politicians are cowards and liars. Nope, not gonna happen.”
I’m not opposing your sentiments, but I feel this is different.
Mostly, they won’t have to make cuts. The new authoritarian health panels stocked with insurance company hacks will make those decisions. Of course, premiums will not be reduced.
You need to distinguish between Medicare and Medicare Advantage. Medicare Advantage (MA) is the program where Medicare beneficiaries sign up with a private health plan and the govt pays the plan a per capita amount that is intended to cover the regular fee-for-service (FFS)Medicare benefits. The Medicare Advantage plan can then fill in some of the cost sharing, add additional benefits, and charge the member a premium.
Due to various changes in the law over time, the rates the govt pays MA plans have crept up over time relative to the FFS costs, so that now plans are being paid somewhere in the neighborhood of 114% of FFS costs. These additional payments get passed along to beneficiaries in the form of lower premiums and richer benefits. Of course, the govt paints it as the greedy health plans are lining their pockets.
There is definitely the political will to lower these payments and virtually everyone in the industry expects something to happen- at best payment rates won’t keep up with health cost trends. At worst, they will be cut significantly.
As a policy matter, you could argue that it is not fair that MA members are getting a greater subsidy than regular FFS members, and that payment rates should be cut. The reality though is that this will mean premium hikes and benefit cuts for MA members.
This is from a 2007 contact list of congressional aides. Some might not be there any longer, but worth a try. The ones on the one post are senate aides, a few have bounced back, its worth the effort to clog up their email system along with the phones, and 1/3rd of these senators are up for re-election.
Mail must be inspected for anthrax.

Good idea from the bloggers at Hillbuzz:
They offer specifics and links on how to put pressure on Dem DONORS, who have private numbers for legislators who may have taken their phones off the hook.
Congress may not want to hear from us, but theyll listen to the money men.

Remember they are all being offered BRIBES for their votes. Ask them how much their bribe price is.
The National Republican Congressional Committee has published a target list on health care. In addition to continuing to contact the five Tennessee Democrat Congressmen, you can go http://www.votervoice.net/link/clickthrough/ext/94697.aspx to contact some of these targets. Much of the talk following Obamas announcement has focused on how to defeat this second bill through reconciliation, but that is misleading because the first step to defeating Obamacare is not by concentrating on defeating the fixer bill but by defeating the Senate bill in the House when it goes to the floor for an up-or-down vote on Thursday, March 18th.

And here are toll-free numbers we can use to call any Senators or Reps.
At the first number below you must wait through a tape recording urging you to tell your Rep or Senator to vote yes for the health care bill. Just hang on and when the recording is over, you will get the Capitol operator. Just ask for your Rep or Senators office. Then you will either talk to an aid or have the chance to leave a message for him/her to vote NO on the health care bill.
When you use the second number and the Capitol operator comes on, just ask for your Rep or Senators office. Every time I use this number I get the Rep or Senators answer machine, so it may be set up that way all the time...to go to their answer machine. Either way you can leave a message to vote NO on the health care bill!
We need to use these toll free numbers that have been set up for the health care/ BO supporters and illegals to use! After all they are FREE!
1-866-220-0044, 1-866-338-1015, 877-851-6437, 877-210-5351
They won’t agree, they’ll just compromise about 100 billion dollars more than they asked for.
The government stinks!

Then it is even, cause I am not liking him very much either.
On another note his Reverend Jeremiah Wright must be very happy with him.
