From what I understand Freedom Alliance is developing a response to the lies and distortions of the Schlussel blog distortions and lies. In the meantime, please go to the Freedom Alliance website. http://www.freedomalliance.org/
Also, please note that they are a four star rated charity by Charity Navigator, an independent charity rating service. You can visit their website here: http://www.charitynavigator.org/index.cfm?bay=search.summary&orgid=6590
You will note that Charity Navigator has the following breakdown of expenses as a percentage;
Organizational Efficiency Program Expenses 81.5% Administrative Expenses 4.8% Fundraising Expenses 13.5% Fundraising Efficiency $0.09 Efficiency Rating (35.65) Organizational Capacity Primary Revenue Growth 7.4% Program Expenses Growth 28.3% Working Capital Ratio (years) 2.57 Capacity Rating (30.00)
They also have breakdown in dollars:
Revenue Primary Revenue $10,778,892 Other Revenue $1,680,425 Total Revenue $12,459,317
Expenses Program Expenses $6,084,474 Administrative Expenses $365,375 Fundraising Expenses $1,011,501 Total Functional Expenses $7,461,350
Payments to Affiliates $0 Excess (or Deficit) for the year $4,997,967
Net Assets $19,354,587
Anyone who can read this can easily see that the vast majority of expenses goes towards the programs.
Let's cool it on the damning of patriots until we can see their response.
I for one, have much faith in people like Oliver North, Charlie Daniels, Lee Greenwood, Sean Hannity, and the hundreds of others who work so hard to do good things for our service people.
BTW, they have more than the one or two programs the slanderous Schlussel would have you believe.
“Anyone who can read this can easily see that the vast majority of expenses goes towards the programs. “
They go to program expenses. What’s the breakdown of program expenses?
Oliver North or Debbie Schlussel....who to believe, who to believe?
I’m glad they jumped on this right away.
Hello!!!
Don’t know what the true situation is but I have a feeling you would continue praising the Freedom Alliance even if Hannity came on and announced - “It’s all true what Schlussel said, I’m turning myself in”.
You must be an absolute idiot...yes, you are one.
I’m not a big Hannity fan, but I would never believe a single thing that Debbie Schussel has to say. How this idiot manages to hold an audience for her nonsense is beyond me.
Did your mother have any children who have commonsense? Its quite apparent that you don’t.
Thank you!
How about some common sense....if this “expose” was true, do you think ANYONE on the left would have missed exposing it?
from their website.......
Through the generosity of thousands of Americans, the Freedom Alliance Scholarship Fund has awarded more than $3 million in scholarships to the sons and daughters of American heroes in the last several years, including:
$25,000 to the USS Cole Memorial Fund for the children of the 17 sailors who were killed in the terrorist attack against the USS Cole in October 2000.
$40,000 to the dependent children of the 21 soldiers and 33 sailors killed at the Pentagon on September 11, 2001.
55 individual student scholarships for the 2002 academic year.
73 individual student scholarships for the 2003 academic year.
80 individual student scholarships for the 2004 academic year.
95 individual student scholarships for the 2005 academic year.
105 individual student scholarships for the 2006 academic year.
113 individual student scholarships for the 2007 academic year.
167 individual student scholarships for the 2008 academic year.
201 individual student scholarships for the 2009 academic year.
It makes sense that they haven’t spent all that much on scholarships yet, the numbers are steadily rising as the kids get older and closer to college age.
I really hope Hannity and Freedom Alliance sue this woman for defamation. She certainly deserves it. Maybe Levin will take the case.
What part is not true?
OK, but they don't disclose the amount of the "scholarships". What if the 55 in 2002 are for $1,000 each, and the 201 in 2009 are for $10 each?
i don’t know enough to expound on non-profits and how they are funded and capitalized. but i would think that to build a charitable organization that you wanted to last any length of time, you do NOT give away every dime you take in on a yearly basis. this charity hasn’t been in existence that long and i would think that they need to invest the proceeds to build a fund that can sustain the organization so they can KEEP giving the scholarships out as they become needed.
That’s what I understand too. My dad is president of a small non profit and he fundraises to cover expenses and hopes to bring in enough to fund an endowment. I would assume that’s what Freedom Alliance is trying to do too. Tragically, we will always have children of deceased servicemen and women and I would like them all to be cared for, now and in the future.
That is the only legitimate question that remains. I suspect that the presentation of benefit concerts IS a program expense, in itself. I suspect that program expenses will be approximately $5.1 million to concert presentation, and $1.0 million to payouts for soldier injuries and scholarships. If I’m right, Schlussel is correct in her analysis of payouts. It won’t make it illegitimate as a charity, but the “program expenses” are misleading.
