The swimsuit round of the Miss England competition has been given its marching orders after 50 years at the encouragement of last year's winner, soldier Katrina Hodge.

Instead, participants will take part in a sports challenge overseen by Lance Corporal Hodge.

(edit)

Miss England national organiser Angie Beasley said the change showed that Miss England was constantly evolving as a competition.

“Every year the girls take part in the various rounds of Miss England – we have a talent, charity, eco and now the sports round, which will replace the swimwear in the competition," she said.

Why choose one? Sporting events in swimwear might be worth watching.

Maybe I’m the odd man out; but when I see a gorgous woman in a bikini; the very LAST thing on my mind is “I wonder how fast she can run, and if she plays beach sports well?”.

Sorry, but that line of thought never even creates a shadow across my real thoughts. Guess I’m just a pig.

Somebody needs to learn the difference between "evolving" and "devolving".

“Every year the girls take part in the various rounds of Miss England – we have a talent, charity, eco and now the sports round, which will replace the swimwear in the competition," she said.

Forget it. The whole thing is a politically correct farce.

From the article:

As the face of underwear firm La Senza, she is no stranger to posing scantily clad but said she did not think the swimsuit round was fair to contestants.

“I think it's nerve-racking enough for girls to get up on a stage and speak, let alone appear in a swimsuit," she said.

Somehow, I don't believe that any of the sports competitions will involve swimsuits.

I wonder how their TV ratings will fare after this?

OK so she can make body armor disruptive camouflage look good. But isn’t swimming a sport? What about beach volleyball?

No, you're just not a militant feminist with a chip on your shoulder, that's all.

Being a normal, healthy male is fast becoming a crime.

Right on. Bikini wrestling. Lingerie Twister. There are so many worthwhile competitive events.

Agreed.  They can make the pageant entirely politically-correct if they want, but they can't make people watch it ....Great Britain is not North Korea where people are required to listen to speeches from Dear Leader all day....Brits can still change the channel, and I'll wager that they will.
