US soldiers to come under Polish command in Afghanistan
15.03.2010 07:52
Around 1000 U.S. soldiers from the elite 101 Airborne Division will strengthen the Polish contingent in the Ghazni province, Afghanistan.
The Americans will be subordinate to Polish command, Gazeta Wyborcza reveals, so the two nations will not be acting as two independent units.
The Polish contingent is also about to be extended from 2,200 to 2.600 soldiers, meaning coalition forces in Ghazni will rise to 3,600 with the addition of US troops.
“The Americans will be subordinate to Polish command...”
Eh? How’s that gonna work?
So they will be receiving orders from leadership that is pro-American unlike the current Commander in Chief.
They are now in safer hands.
So you’re think this might be a net plus? Oh, the proud 101st!
Good one :-) LOL!
It may work well. I’ve heard that MOST of the Poles speak ENGLISH. I bet ONLY a couple of GI’s, whose grandparents came from Warsaw can speak Polish.
The way things are going here, soon a higher percentage of Polish people will speak English than American students.
For the first time in my life, I like the idea of our soldiers under the command of a foreign officer. That’s a huge step up from a foreign, anti-American Community-Organizer-in-Chief.
Oh my. What a sad state we are in. Crazy isnt it. Glad my granddads not here to see this. However, he is rolling in his grave. Just Damn
While you are correct, the Polish seem to have their head’s glued on squarely, I don’t like U.S. troops coming under foreign command unless it’s a much broader situation, like a WW like scenario.
When we do it casually, it gives the U.N. more power IMO. We should be very reticent to allow U.S. troops to operate in any situation involving the U.N., not that this is, but I think you catch my drift.
And I’m sure you understand why. The U.N. should never be given anything like control over any aspect of our military, even for what seems like a benign situation.
Could be.
Last time this happened was Operation Market Garden. Not so good.
I hear ya about being under Polish command is probably better than being under the command of an illegal alien communist anit Israel / America Islamic Jihadist. At least the Poles are not too likely to command the 101st to confiscate civilian owned firearms in America and kill any Americans who resist, are they?
ON the other side of the coin, is there a European Nation which at one point or another in history hasn’t conquered Poland at LEAST once?
At least our Troops are not being forced to be subordinate to the useless vermin (Savagism, and I heartily concur) UN.
In WW2, several U.S. Divisions, and even armies, were under U.K. operational command. It’s not unprecedented.
And the top of the chain of command, even in this situation, is American.
As other posters here have noted, the Poles genuinely have their act together. In this situation, I don’t mind American forces serving with, or under, their command.
We had our first “FRG” Family Readiness Group call last week from Ft. Campbell. Thankfully, we’d already heard from him earlier in the day. Don’t quite know how I’d have taken the call otherwise.
Thank GOD for those who take on the responsibility to make the calls alerting family of a unit that’s been affected by an attack. Until that call, I had no idea they did that.
Sadly, my kiddo’s roommate and another soldier were felled by the attack.
If we’re lucky, their polish commanders will order an invasion of Washington DC.
In honor of the occasion, go listen to Sabaton’s song 40:1 and look up the history of the battle.
I agree with all of your points.
No offense to our fine Polish allies, but American troops should not be subjugated to anybody
