A decennial tradition that dates back 220 years to the days of George Washington continues today when federal census forms start arriving at more than 120 million households across the United States.
But hanging over this 23rd U.S. census are concerns about a decline in participation.
While the U.S. census has always evoked some resentment toward the feds for poking their nose into people's business, there's a sense that America's distrust of the government has reached greater heights and could contribute to poor census returns.

Maybe they should stick to asking only the relevant questions like how many live at this residence. /s
Ya think...?
Darn, I got mine and somehow have misplaced it.
America has had enough of Marxist idiocy!
Right. Like any of us wants to voluntarily cooperate with the thieves and liars who presume to represent us.
They’re getting the number of people in the household. That’s it!
I will be taking a black permanent marker and drawing through all of the other fields lest some creative idiot at ACORN decides they can start filling in Census forms with information they deem proper.
Somewhere in Buffalo there has to be at least one copy of the Constitution.
They use it for justification of for more entitlement programs and allocating more power to my liberal state.
Everything goes in the shredder.
We need to be led by the conservative states not the brain dead pot smoking hippies.
All they’re getting out of my house is how many people live here, are they adults or not, and are they citizens (and I’ll write in American if that word is not on the form).
Then I’m mailing it back.
I’m actually looking forward to a brownshirt showdown.
MA has been losing population for years and is likely to lose representation in the US House. I’m doing my part to weaken the state. ;)
Due to a mix up at the hands of the census worker (imagine that!) I was left with a form addressed for my business, not my home.(biz is right next door)
I honestly answered “0” for # of people and sent it in.
She took my home form with her to delete it from the rolls. She thought she had the biz form.
Oh well....
Come n git me, coppers!
They got all from me they will ever get, run off my property by force!
I am very tempted to rip off the first page of the census and only mail that part back in. It has the first question on it and that's all they need. The other part has our address on it. Paranoid...YEA, who wouldn't be with the intrusive government who wants to tell us what to do, when to do it, and oh by the way, we're taking more tax dollars too.
The “you’re gonna get a letter next week” letter didn’t mention the Constitutional use of the census count at all,
but was all about “getting your fair share of government money”.
Everyone remember - your race is “Other: American”.
I hope people in conservative parts of the country will answer, at least the enumeration of population. I plan to answer with the correct number of residence and our race: “HUMAN”. I’d love to see the socialist Obama-districts lose due to non-participation!
Don’t fear a poor census response; Obama will estimate the true census count!
I have been reading these census threads. I dont know how many of you have ever seen the censuses of the past, but i have literally seen millions.
I do genealogy, plus am currently working on indexing old censuses to get them online.
These censuses, dating back to the 1800’s basically are all the same, asking the same questions. Name, names of people in the household, their age, their “color/race”, married/single/widowed/divorced, date of immigration, date of naturalization, country/state of birth for each person and their parents, type of work they did and some, even the price of the home they live in.
What they are asking in this census, is no different from any other. There is absolutely nothing new here, in fact, they are asking for LESS information.
I know most people dont care, but these censuses, for genealogists are a very valuable tool.
Congress doesn’t obey the law. Why should anyone else?
