Martinez Delegates' Pick (Radical Kokesh a few votes shy for NM-3 ballot)
The Albuquerque Journal ^ | March 14, 2010 | Sean Olson

Posted on 03/14/2010 2:35:01 PM PDT by CedarDave

District Attorney Susana Martinez of Las Cruces topped the Republican candidate field for governor Saturday at the state party's nominating convention in Albuquerque, winning the top ballot spot for the June 1 primary election.

Former state party Chairman Allen Weh was the only other candidate of five Republican gubernatorial contenders to win the necessary 20 percent of the delegate vote for a convention nomination to the ballot.

Martinez won nearly 47 percent of the vote. Weh received 26 percent. "It's a huge step, and (the vote) certainly says Republicans want to unite to take back New Mexico," Martinez said. ... the three remaining candidates — state Rep. Janice Arnold-Jones of Albuquerque, public relations firm owner Doug Turner of Albuquerque and lawyer Pete Domenici Jr. of Albuquerque, the son of former longtime New Mexico Sen. Pete Domenici, R-N.M. — came up short of the 20 percent delegate vote needed for convention designation to the June 1 ballot.

~~snip~~

3rd Congressional District candidate Tom Mullins, a Farmington petroleum engineer, received nearly 81 percent of the vote. His challenger, former Marine Adam Kokesh of Santa Fe was just few votes shy of receiving the 20 percent needed to be automatically added to the ballot.

Candidates not getting 20 percent of the convention vote and using a fallback method for being named to the primary election ballot must submit additional nominating petition signatures from registered Republicans.

TOPICS: Crime/Corruption; Politics/Elections; US: New Mexico
KEYWORDS: kokesh; martinez; mullins; susanamartinez
From the Santa Fe New Mexican:

U.S. Representative-District 3
Tom Mullins, 80.5 percent
Adam Kokesh, 19.5 percent

See these links for information on Kokesh and his Code Pink, Cindy Sheehan type of radicalism. He is apparently being supported by the Ron Paul types though his Marine career was anything but stellar.

What would you say his chances are Kokesh of getting on the ballot at this stage?

Kokesh is a disaster. I hope this finishes him off.

If the Paulbots were supporting him. It just goes to show that antiwar protesting is a higher priority for them than anything else.

I don’t know; I’m at the other end of the state in Steve Pearce’s district so all I hear is what is reported elsewhere. And I don’t know how many signatures are needed to get on the ballot — no doubt a percentage of Republican votes cast in the last election but what that number is has been unreported.

Tune in this evening to FR blogtalkradio ( http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/2470592/posts ) and ask Mullins; he should know.

I would say good. With party blessing, it’s 328 — without, it’s 656. If he couldn’t get 656 signatures, that should have been a sign to him that he ought not be running in the first place.

CedarDave, I live in NM 3, when the heck was the election? I only had a municipal election on March 2. Didn’t see anything regarding NM 3. Did I flat out miss something?

It was the Republican Party’s pre-primary nominating convention. You vote at the meeting but I don’t know particulars like who gets to vote (attendees or those associated with a candidate).
