Don Imus, for one, is not surprised by Tom Hanks' recent comments calling WWII and the War on Terrorism racist crusades undertaken by the United States.
First brought to his attention by "Imus in the Morning" producer Bernard McGuirk on the show, the remarks were news to the host - just not shocking news.
"Oh darn, what a surprise. We have another panty-wearing liberal dickweed from Hollywood - of course!" Imus told McGuirk.

The Hurt Locker...Americans are imperialists in a place they shouldn't be, black guy virtuous and good, white guy redneck and morally ambiguous. Along the lines of full metal jacket, where the American soldiers are not the good guys, just confused pawns, plodding along cursing and acting like uncultured barbarians. The freaking director about summed up my assessment, watch an interview with her. I want my 2 hours of my life back, OVERRATED!!!!
Oh and the new Tom Hanks show The Pacific, crap also, same sort of thing, bright eyed Marines who feel sorry for the Japanese soldiers. Also terribly unrealistic and a historical abomination.

That’s a new one. Just about everyone on here I’ve spoken to liked it. Including people who were in Iraq.

Thats a new one. Just about everyone on here Ive spoken to liked it. Including people who were in Iraq.I thought it had entertainment value, but lacked verisimilitude.
There was definitely some strong embellishment of how those operations are really conducted as well as a lot of revisionist stuff about the overall experience in Iraq.

” Hanks, a good actor but knows nothing about life “
Just remember that actors are better at being someone else...

Yea your right it's pro American, John Wayne type movie...LOL, in fact why don't you go see it again. Maybe I should post the interview with the director, the freaking person who made the movie, tell you what she was doing with it, what message she was sending. But a guy on the internet who has see it with an Iraq war buddy(Yea right) says he saw some Frank Capra interpetation of it. Read the IMPD bio of her.....
Kathryn Bigelow Should know your stuff before running at the mouth.

Oh here is the money quote for some of you who thinks I am trolling our poor hapless poster here
I always want to make films. I think of it as a great opportunity to comment on the world in which we live. Perhaps just because I just came off The Hurt Locker (2008) and I'm thinking of the war and I think it's a deplorable situation. It's a great medium in which to speak about that. This is a war that cannot be won, why are we sending troops over there? Well, the only medium I have, the only opportunity I have, is to use film. There will always be issues I care about.

Overwrought much? I was talking about people on this site who have seen it and are in Iraq. And what’s important is what’s onscreen not what the maker of the film says they intended. But your points about the film are certainly valid.

Thanks for your input. I don't think any drama has complete verisimilitude and lacks creative embellishment.

And btw, an artist's intentions don't have much bearing on the final product. Jack London was a Marxist but ‘The Call of the Wild’ is one of the great paeans to Individualism.

"The minute he opened his big mouth to protest against Hitler"
Tom Hanks, Steven Spielberg and the rest of the Hollywood Idiots don't criticize Dictators. The support them especially of they are bitter enemies of the United States.
Examples:, Castro, Chavez, etc.
I have no use for them and their movies!

“Hollywood” is going to be balkanized sooner than later. Hopefully, it will be sooner so there won’t be another dearth of decent movies.

Spielberg has been a supporter of Fidel Castro and his regime for decades. He has visited CUBA as part of some cultural exchange program he is involved with.
Even Robert Duval called him out on it a few years back!

That’s not quite being a ‘supporter’. I’ve not heard of him speaking about in support of Castro. Or any other dictator.
