Yes, he was LDS. Not sure how active he was, though.

That was my impression of him too. He seemed like such a decent person. I loved him in LHOTP too. : )
He was a great football player. Very sad news.

We were not terribly close. He was a Sigma Chi; I was Sigma Alpha Epsilon. We did share numerous friends in the athletic department. After my freshman year, I went to Denmark and he went to the Rams. Saw him once or twice after that.

He was a Great Dane!

Sad. Always loved him as Mr. Carver on Littler House on the Prairie.

I didn't know there was a sequel.

(Ducking now.)

Do you know if he served a mission or was active? I’ve never heard.

He did not go on the mission. I have a very good friend in Los Angeles that was a sometime drinking buddy as were all the Sigma Chi’s. That doesn’t mean he didn’t live on the fence as we all did during those years.

Seemed like a real good guy

He was. I went to school with his kids and Merlin would come out and help coach the lines on the football team when he could. He was a very kind man who was always willing to help people. His son, Nate, was a very good high school player who went on to play at Stanford.
