Ever imagined you would get to see the most powerful man in the world clad in a Javanese sarong, possibly even donning rubber sandals? A treat is definitely in store for those who have.

According to Central Java Governor Bibit Waluyo, sarongs will remain the order of the day for all visitors to Central Java’s famed Borobudur Temple, including US President Barack Obama, his wife, first lady, Michelle Obama and daughters Sasha and Malia.

“I have received information from the Foreign Ministry that the US President, his wife Michelle and two daughters are scheduled to visit Candi Borobudur on March 22. The [state] visit aside, even the US president’s family must follow the existing regulations applied within the confines of the temple,” Bibit said on Friday.

I sense a lot of bowing is about to happen...

What a complete jackass...

Hope to God it's not windy.

Wearing a sarong - bowing - a windy day...

The whole world would be puking at that sight.

Interesting Factoids:

Some 2.5 million tourists visited Borobudur last year. Indonesians pay 15,000 rupiah (US$1.60) to enter the compound while foreigners are charged US$15.

As Islam spread through Java after the 12th century, the “temple mountain” of Borobudur was abandoned and lost to the jungle.

It was “rediscovered” in 1814 by English colonial trader Sir Thomas Stamford Raffles and was restored with the help of UNESCO in the 1970s.

How precious!

You're extremely cruel, sarcastic, and judgmental.

I like that in a person!

I wore a lava lava when stationed in the South Pacific and they are very comfortable, especially in hot humid weather. Like a scots kilt, you don’t ask what is worn under. If Obama and Michelle wear the same pattern they would be called ding-a-lings in HI where old tourists had a habit of moma in a moo moo and pop in an alhoa shirt wearing the same fabric pattern.

Big deal. He isn’t the first President to wear traditional outfits. Won’t be the last.
