On her blog, Elizabeth Wright offers an excellent analysis of the mass hysteria that is the Sarah Palin phenomenon.
Wright is a black conservative who specializes in debunking the sense of victimhood that so many black leaders love to employ to their advantage. She argues that the many wannabe conservatives who are Palin fans are employing the same tactic. They invoke the liberal sense of victimhood in her defense.
That of course is the essence of the Palin cult. It consists of people who feel that they're being put upon by their betters. It never occurs to these characters to ask why Palin could be bested in an interview by her fellow airhead - and now fellow talking head - Katie Couric.
Imagine for just a second that the late William F. Buckley had been interviewed by Couric. Is there the slightest chance that Buckley would have come out second best? Is there the slightest chance that the intellectual and elitist Buckley would have done anything other than patronize the plebian Couric?
Wright does a good job of pointing out how Palin invokes the same sense of victimhood as those self-appointed spokesmen for black Americans:
In fact, many of these so-called independent thinkers on the right appear to equate a person who harbors sentiments that "exclude" others as un-American. "Inclusion" is the order of the day – because liberals taught them so. Now that Sarah Palin is on the scene, conservatives are warming to the task of smearing opponents as "sexist." Yet another victory for their liberal mentors.
Best of all, she even quotes the sole genuinely conservative columnist on any major American newspaper:

If Sarah Palin was no threat to Obama, the media would just ignore her. They attack her because she is the only one who can defeat the Kenyan Commie. Everything she writes or speaks gets reprinted here and abroad, analyzed, parsed, dissected, repeated, supported and attacked, ad infinitum.
They don't attack Haley Barbour, Mitt Romney, Pawlenty, Huckabee, Jindal, or any of the other milquetoast RINOs, for the same reason -- none of them pose any threat to this communist regime. They don't speak out against it; they don't resist it; and none of them have to gonads to oppose corruption at any level. Nobody cares what they think (if they even do), or what they say, or where they will appear next. Nobody cares.

Not quite. They attack her because they are jealous she had a meteoric rise based on her looks and most of the MSM are ugly hags.
They are right, her rise is almost completely based on her looks. This doesn’t particularly bother me the way it does the MSM, but she just isn’t qualified to be President in my opinion.

I’ll add another thing.. Group Think Menality, a staple of the left-wing and Democratic party has invaded the Republican Party via Palin.
Palin supporters are using the same Alinsky tactics against conservatives who think she’s unqualified to be president as Obama and the left do.

Like I said in another post.. if Palin looked like Helen Thomas, she’d be lucky to draw flies.. Okay, she’d draw flies, but that’s it.

That particular saying comes from Ronald Reagan. Sarah Palin was only quoting him. The author of this venomous little rant needs to do better research.
It's also instructive to recall the context in which Reagan said those words. At a time when appeasement, detente, and realpolitik were the order of the day for both Democrats and Republicans, Reagan cut through the BS with a succinct restatement of who we are and what we do as Americans. Those who would waver in the fight against Islamist terrorism would do well to listen to such cliches and platitudes.
Her looks don't hurt but to say that is her main claim to fame is like I said...utter nonsense....
