Sarah Palin: Just another whiny liberal claiming victimization
NJ.com ^ | 3/9/10 | Paul Mulshine

On her blog, Elizabeth Wright offers an excellent analysis of the mass hysteria that is the Sarah Palin phenomenon.

Wright is a black conservative who specializes in debunking the sense of victimhood that so many black leaders love to employ to their advantage. She argues that the many wannabe conservatives who are Palin fans are employing the same tactic. They invoke the liberal sense of victimhood in her defense.

That of course is the essence of the Palin cult. It consists of people who feel that they're being put upon by their betters. It never occurs to these characters to ask why Palin could be bested in an interview by her fellow airhead - and now fellow talking head - Katie Couric.

Imagine for just a second that the late William F. Buckley had been interviewed by Couric. Is there the slightest chance that Buckley would have come out second best? Is there the slightest chance that the intellectual and elitist Buckley would have done anything other than patronize the plebian Couric?

Wright does a good job of pointing out how Palin invokes the same sense of victimhood as those self-appointed spokesmen for black Americans:

In fact, many of these so-called independent thinkers on the right appear to equate a person who harbors sentiments that "exclude" others as un-American. "Inclusion" is the order of the day – because liberals taught them so. Now that Sarah Palin is on the scene, conservatives are warming to the task of smearing opponents as "sexist." Yet another victory for their liberal mentors.

Best of all, she even quotes the sole genuinely conservative columnist on any major American newspaper:

Not pro-abortion, but way to put words in my mouth and cop out of an argument you had no chance in hell of winning.

That would be Haley Barbour. Alabama National Guard 11000-12500 to Alaska’s 4200.

Haley Barbour, the fine conservative governor from Mississippi... But he’s just another old white man, we don’t need any of those right?

Such irony.

"Sorry that I am indifferent to abortion. I wouldn’t want to bring a child into this world if it means it’ll have to work for the state under “Big Gov Huck”."

"The people irrationally demanding the end to abortion are going to bring the end of the nation. I actually do think abortion is pretty disgusting and absolutely wouldn’t advocate anyone get one, but like I said, the future of a free capitalist nation is top dog."

That is pretty pro abortion, it sure doesn't sound like a conservative pro lifer at a conservative, pro life web site.

While I like Haley Barbour, where has he been the last year, when not just conservatives, not just the GOP, but the whole d*mn Republic of the USA was on the line! Nowhere!

Is Sarah Palin the perfect candidate? No. Could she improve herself and her odds of winning? Yes.

But she's out there fighting, and that counts ten times more with me than those being quiet mice positioning themselves in the background while Ceasar Zero goes on his unholy tear.....

That's pro abortion?

I actually do think abortion is pretty disgusting and absolutely wouldn’t advocate anyone get one

That's Pro-Abortion? So basically, if Abortion isn't your #1 stop-all, be-all issue, you are Pro-Abortion? Wow.....

Ummm... There’s just a little problem with your analogy. Haley Barbour has a job. Sarah had one of those once. Barbour runs a state and he’s also chairman of the Republican Governors Association. Sarah Palin turned in the reins (whether the reason was valid or not) to give fluff speeches and go on a book tour.

You really don’t think you’re being unfair?

Wow, you even replied to it 3 times.. Very good. You’re something else.

So everyone pay attention this genius here. If Abortion isn’t your #1 issue, you are pro-abortion. Those are the rules, get in line or get out.

Haley Barbour vs Sarah Palin

One of these two people running as Vice President drew a larger TV audience at the Convention speech than both Presidential candidates Obama and McCain. Never has the VP candidate done this before and never will it happen again. She can still pack houses and draw people by the tens of thousands.
Barbour? I have not studied his conservative credentials, but I know he has some pardon problems like Huckabee, and he will never match Palin in popularity.

Like I said, you are not very conservative and it colors who you support and attack, it is good that people know that.

You really don’t think you’re being unfair?

Your sarcasm gives away your true intents. Gov. Palin was being sued into bankruptcy, and every claim was thrown out.

Regarding Barbour, how much time does it take to pen an op-ed, be-it on Facebook, for the WSJ, a blog, you name it? No, I'm not being unfair one bit.

Somone HAD to lead the charge, any kind of charge, and Haley Barbour decided not to be the leader the country needed when it needed it the most.

Good governor? Sure, more good than bad, from what I can see. National leader? No.

Bruce Springstein can pack houses and draw people by the tens of thousands, what the hell does that mean?

Sarah Palin is a political novelty act purely based on her good looks. The conservative version of PDS bounces off the wall when this argument is risen but its ABSOLUTELY 100% FACT! If she looked like Helen Thomas she wouldn’t draw flies. Okay, I take that back, she might draw flies.

She’s good to rally the conservative base, but that’s about it. Whether rightly or wrongly she has the baggage of quitting on the state of Alaska around her neck for the rest of her political career. She is the one potential GOP candidate that gives Obama a chance in Nov. 2012.

I was rooting for Palin. I was hoping she was more improved and more polished at her Tea Party speech. She wasn’t.

Barbour is a good guy but He is part of the old boys network. Some forget the stint he did as RNC Chair. He did good work in Miss after the hurricane but to compare his CIC credits to Palin’s is rather funny. DO Miss. has missile silo’s as part of our first line of defense. I don’t think so. If I am not mistaken the Gov of AK has one of the highest security clearance of any Gov. There is alot in this area we do not know because Sarah does not talk about it.

I wonder if Cuba ever sent bombers to Miss. just to harass Miss. Like the Russia’s do too AK. Just a thought.

Haley Barbour has written op-eds for the NY Times, Washington Post, Times, and Examiner

Please get your facts in order. Because Palin has reached celebrity status doesn’t make her anymore qualified to be President than Jesse Ventura.
