On her blog, Elizabeth Wright offers an excellent analysis of the mass hysteria that is the Sarah Palin phenomenon.
Wright is a black conservative who specializes in debunking the sense of victimhood that so many black leaders love to employ to their advantage. She argues that the many wannabe conservatives who are Palin fans are employing the same tactic. They invoke the liberal sense of victimhood in her defense.
That of course is the essence of the Palin cult. It consists of people who feel that they're being put upon by their betters. It never occurs to these characters to ask why Palin could be bested in an interview by her fellow airhead - and now fellow talking head - Katie Couric.
Imagine for just a second that the late William F. Buckley had been interviewed by Couric. Is there the slightest chance that Buckley would have come out second best? Is there the slightest chance that the intellectual and elitist Buckley would have done anything other than patronize the plebian Couric?
Wright does a good job of pointing out how Palin invokes the same sense of victimhood as those self-appointed spokesmen for black Americans:
In fact, many of these so-called independent thinkers on the right appear to equate a person who harbors sentiments that "exclude" others as un-American. "Inclusion" is the order of the day because liberals taught them so. Now that Sarah Palin is on the scene, conservatives are warming to the task of smearing opponents as "sexist." Yet another victory for their liberal mentors.
Best of all, she even quotes the sole genuinely conservative columnist on any major American newspaper:

Hello Rino lover Onerom99. How’s Rudy?
Of course you don’t need to read.
Here we go again with Paul Mulshine's version of no true Scotsman. This is starting to get get really old, and really annoying.
You didn’t miss anything...reads like a high school essay.
Here is one of those "irrational conservatives".
Sarah Palin IS this Tea Partier's cup of Tea!! 12/02/2009 | Jim Robinson
Being as how I'm a God, Country, Family, small government, traditional American values, Life & Liberty patriotic kind of guy, Sarah Palin IS my cup of tea. My cup runneth over!
I pray she runs.

Paul Mulshine is also a self-described conservative who said of himself “why, as a conservative, I am appalled by the conduct of the people at Fox”. Paul Mulshine: article titled “Fox News really isn’t conservative”. Star-Ledger of Newark, N.J. October 14, 2006.
Mark Levin: Paul Mulshine is a jackass
If Buckley had allowed Couric to tape 3-4 hours of conversations in several different sessions, and then edit them down to twenty-five minutes without any input from him, then yes, he could have been portrayed in a less than flattering light.
Those interviews were not live. They were edited down from a much larger amount of material, and the editors had total control of clip selection, sequence and context, and what to include and exclude. Almost none of the posters on this board who have been incessantly blathering about this have done so honestly.
Bottom line, it was a mistake to do any interviews with hostile interviewers which weren't live. Palin did not want to do them but was pressured, and to a degree deceived by her handlers into doing them. The end result was that Palin didn't come across well, but the blame lies also with her handlers.
Conventional wisdom was against David who became King of Israel. We don’t choose. I won’t now.
Levin nailed it
Using the oldest rudimentary form of describing a liberal isn't doing this guy any favors. Palin is far from victim status and the left is vitriolic about it. It is quite an open display of projection.
Was just what I was thinking... It’s one thing to cry sexist with no reason, it’s another when the whole liberal establishment comes after you for your conservative beliefs.
Me thinks this fellow has other problems (doubt that being conservative is one of them).
No dumb Sarah Palin-hating blue-gums allowed here.
What are we allowed to talk about?
You could talk to your new anti Palin buddy about his pro abortion views and how he can’t stand social conservatives and how much he liked Rudy Giuliani.
You sure align yourself with some unusual people donna, I guess white hot hate, fries your brain a little.
You must be one of those NAGS, (National Association of Gals), Rush talks about because they are so ugly they are jealous of attractive conservatives. Try some makeup...
Get back to us when you get a clue.
I agree 100%.. I’m not arguing that he does at all..
But two wrongs don’t make a right.
Jim is off his rocker on that one. Clearly affected by the right wing version of PDS.
