LINCOLN, Neb. Nature's Variety has expanded its recall of chicken-flavored pet food because of concerns over salmonella.

As a related aside here, I've been feeding my pooch (now 4 years old) a diet of raw chicken (with bones), raw turkey necks, and chicken offal (hearts, livers, etc). [there are days she gets non-mean meals - eggs, fruits, veggies, essential oils, to round things out].
Seems to me there is a good dose of salmonella in there.
Dogs have a short digestive track, as compared to humans, and typically aren’t affected by salmonella (no time for it to really proliferate in their gut) like humans are.
Everything you’ve listed as feeding sounds perfect.
ping for later
Well, part of this problem might be that dog owners usually touch the food, and if not expecting to wash hands afterward, could infect themselves.
It is a bit of a stretch, but possible.
hmm....and yesterday they recalled Cheeseburger Flavored Pringles for the same reason....coincidence??
Not a coinkydink.
Maybe they’re worried about the elderly.
Yes, since Bush took everything thing from the old folks, they have to eat dog food to survive. This recall is a gift from obama and he will use this in his next speech.
"And then there's Gertrude Zorch, from Feeley, Nebraska. Stand up, Gertrude! Oh, my gosh! You're in a wheelchair! I guess YOU won't be standing up, ha, ha! Where's Joe Biden? Joe, help her stand up!
Gertrude didn't have enough money to buy food for herself, since Bush took away all of her money. Old Gertrude, who's a grandma to 17 kids, (applause) had to eat dog food. She had a lot left since she had to eat her 12 dogs. That was Bush's fault, too.
Anyway, Emma ate the dog food and got Sam-and-Ella disease from it and nearly threw up and died. Her grandkids bought her some fresh dog food, so she's OK for a while. But we didn't want any other old fogies to get sick, so I wrote Gertrude's law, which makes it illegal to try to kill off the old codgers Bush's failed policies didn't manage to kill yet.
My law, Gertrude's Fresh Pet Food Act, GFPFA, ensures safe meals for a few more months for those with one foot in the grave and those who aren't valuable to society anymore. If you vote Republican, they will put the Sam-and-Ella back into the food. And it will increase their chances of getting Old-Timer's Disease."
I just had a vision of someone hacking into TOTUS and him actually reading your speech!
Tom Daschel’s Mother hit hardest...
You know because she has to eat cat food because her well to do son could give a crap about her well being because he let’s the government take care of her and only brings her out when he needs a sob story about how bad she has it.
Darn it you beat me to the old folk eating dog food angle!!!!
You forgot to mention Tom Daschele....
I feed my dogs raw too. Love it!
My feral friend "Half-a-Cat" leaves little more than a few bits of fur from her mice/voles/etc, and eats insects whole.
Yeah, most mammals and birds bodies don’t mind eating piles and piles of germ-laden stuff. They snarf down that road kill no matter how fresh or how old it is.
We have one little bite of slop and we’re barfing all over the place.
Man, that was great!
Thank you. It was more fun writing a speech for the ‘bammer’ than it would have been doing my job. (Actually, I did it on a break. I’m not a dem.)
Ah, yes. Gone, but not forgotten. Road kill.
Thanks for posting.
This is the brand that purchase. I use their freeze dried lamb, and I called Nature’s Variety to make sure that the chicken is the only recall.
They have an informative article on their new processing procedures.
Somewhat related: “Shopper card information was successfully used to determine specific brands of a product suspected to cause illness. Ill persons gave permission for public health officials to retrieve purchase information based on shopper card numbers. Additionally, a case-control study was conducted which suggested that the individuals who became ill ate salami/salame products a week prior to becoming ill.”
