Wow. This audience loves her and only grows to love her more as the interview rolls on. About ten minutes in she shows more guts than any politician maybe ever by agreeing to make her stand up debut on The Tonight Show in front of a Los Angeles audience. What poise.
If Sarah Palin can win over this audience in this way in one of the bluest regions of the country, if I were Barbara Boxer Id be pretty worried right now.
Somethings in the air.
Kudos as always to Jay Leno for being the consummate gentlemen. During the interview hes curious, respectful, lets her talk, and just probing enough for this kind of setting. Imagine David Letterman in this situation. With one eye on impressing his fellow Manhattan Elites, hed have been a nauseating mixture of lecherous and cruel. Jon Stewart wouldve made a lot of faces, Bill Mahers head wouldve exploded, and Stephen Colbert wouldve made fun of Trig.
If Leno thought the Beautiful People were out to get him before, his respectful treatment of Sarah Palin should forever seal his fate as The Outsider. He must have missed the Hollywood Memo declaring that its child-raping directors you make look good, not self-made governors.
UPDATE: Ed Morrisey makes a keen observation:
The Right Scoop captured last nights canny performance from Sarah Palin on Jay Lenos renewed Tonight Show. How canny? She manages to tie her treatment by the media to the mostly unfair treatment Leno himself got from the entertainment media, a good way to gain the audiences sympathy.
Yup. Just keep underestimating our Sarah.

Good entertainment.
Yes, she is definitely carrying the conservative message into the RAT’s nest.
That was really good. I loved her spunk, & she didn’t miss a beat. Surprisingly, I didn’t hear any boos from the audience, which I thought I would w/ it being from SoCal. She’s definitely made for TV, isn’t she?
I loved "If the left are going to get all wee-wee'd up about it, I'll keep doing it." LOL
From HillBuzz:
Notes on her hand, notes on her hand. Messing with the Left with notes on her hand!
LOL.
I love that!
Me too! They’re trying to get Mark Lloyd to do a”Notes on Her Hand” song for the Tea Party Express send-off which she’s attending in Searchlight, NV (Harry Reid’s hometown) later this month. A lot of FReepers are going!!!
Sarah Palin has charisma, but unlike many liberals, part of what is appealing to the public is that she is the genuine article. When you listen to Sarah Palin you believe that this woman is the same at home as she is in the public eye.
I believe that for many individuals, including some liberals, find this kind of quiet confidence, unabashed, uncompromising, unflinching, well poised conservative to be charming and refreshing compared to the base, vulgar, obnoxious, “look at me!, look at me!, I’m a STRONG woman and you’d better take me seriously because I can kick you a#@!’, classless public figure.
People believe they are seeing someone whose not pandering or groveling for votes/approval (remember Biden and restaurant and Home Depot stunt? Or Hillary and the planted members in the audience?), and that, in and of itself, is appealing to many.
“How canny? She manages to tie her treatment by the media to the mostly unfair treatment Leno himself got from the entertainment media, a good way to gain the audiences sympathy.”
Yep - I noticed that. As well as she did with “her” standup routine (I imagine the jokes were written by Leno’s staff), she did well in just talking. I suppose the one about dad giving advice on what kind of ammunition to use is an old one, but I thought she was pretty quick when Jay asked her about the rumors of her doing a talk show and she replied “well I hear this desk is open from time to time” or something like that.
I also liked her answer with regard to the Tea Party having a leader.
I think she was just trying too hard to play nice and got off into the hero worship thing all over again... The left, especially the MSM and some on the right seem to be winning their fearful little war on Sarah by making her seem to be unready for prime time.
The sad thing is, not enough of us have had the nerve to point out how even more unready Obama was/still is to be an executive at ANY level. Except for Rush, most conservatives have been SO fearful of having a "racist" label being stuck to them, unjustly!!!
Never fall in love with a politician... They'll break your heart everytime! (recently fired KSFO 560AM arch conservative talk host who used to co-host with courageous conservative talk host Melanie Morgan in San Francisco with huge ratings)
Unfortunately, you lost a great deal credibility citing that site as a source. They are enamored of Hillary Clinton, a leftwing Dum. And as for their lifestyle -- well suffice it to say that the Bible speaks about that in no uncertain terms.
This is Mr. Robinson's site and, unquestionably, he's free to run it as he see fits. That's the beauty of free-market capitalism. But as a Christian, I'd like to suggest that referencing hillbuzz as a source be disallowed here on FR.
Too bad it was all on such a lame show.
Right on, Sarah...........great job!
I should state that I’m not a Sarah Palin worshipper, not that I’m criticizing those who are. To each his own.
I do not place my trust in any politician. My ultimate trust is in Christ. In issues concerning our public officials; after a lot of time and consideration, I cast my vote and let the chips fall where they may.
Sarah Palin is a breath of fresh air to many because she is an articulate conservative woman with class, and she can hold her own on the public stage. As the saying goes, “You can please some of the people some of the time, but you can’t please all of the people all of the time”.
Do a little research, HillBuzz likes Sarah, Michelle and Bachmann to name two.
Many of us are Christians, but the lines onyx quoted off of HillBuzz are harmless comedy.
You are correct that this is Jim's site and it's his call, but I'd sure hate to see FR start disallowing quotes from certain sources.
We have a lot of fun with quotes and comments from Democratic Underground (DU) on here and that site is vile. But I believe it's important that we maintain a sense of humor here.
Onyx was not condoning that site at all; she merely quoted two lines from it. I see nothing whatsoever wrong with that. (And yes, I am a Christian.) IMO, we should always keep an eye on what the enemy is saying.
In this case, HillBuzz was credited here in post #797 by RonDog, who linked their site.
Sheeesh.
While that specific stance is laudable, the ``Boystown'' and ``Hot for Hillary'' stuff is far from Conservative in my estimation.
...and yes, I did read the very positive and touching remarks about President Bush and Vice President Cheney on that site several months ago.
I will admit that I personally find it difficult separate the message from the messenger. I'm likely older than many of FReepers and my values tend to be very traditional which is why much of what I find there to be off-putting. Respectfully, we'll simply have agree to disagree on this particular matter.
When a Person repeats they are a Christian, mentions the
talking points, Bible, etc.
they are convincing themselves more than others.
As an FR poster...I’d appreciate you not attempting to dicate what is or is not a valid source...I’ll decide for myself thanks...
After thinking it over, you're quite right. Disallowing the citation of sources would stifle the spirited give and take that makes FR such a stimulating source of information and opinion.
In the wisdom of 20/20 hindsight, I regret even offering that as a suggestion. Sometimes, I am just an old fuddy-duddy. You young'uns' can look that term up. :-)
