House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) told reporters that the Democrats will use reconciliation in the Senate if they cannot find the 60 votes to prevent a Republican filibuster to pass health care legislation. Under reconciliation, the Democrats would need only 51 votes in the Senate to pass the bill.
What well do is hope he (Reid) can still find 60 votes, but if not, well have to go to the simple majority, and that simple majority confines the issues that we can address, Pelosi said during a news conference in the speakers balcony hallway on Tuesday.
Ill tell you where we are, she said. We are right now freezing the language on the legislation (Obamas revisions merged with Senate bill); once we have that, and a report back from the CBO (Congressional Budget Office). So, its about the substance.
Secondly, well see what the Senate can do in this regard and then we will take that substance and that to our members, but our members want quality, affordable health care for all Americans, and I feel very confident that we will accomplish that, Pelosi said

So let's make sure they do NOT have those votes. Call, email and/or visit your congresspersons and U.S. Senators.
They are trying to wear us out. Don't let that happen. Time might be very short.
But the senate already passed the bill, the house is voting on the senate bill.
I am not getting the confusion.
McCain can really help us out by agreeing to vote with the Rats to end the fillbuster so that the bill will be legit and avoid a fiasco for the sake of the senate. But have the Senate agree to certain processes and amendments to be allowed in debate.
Then when they call to end the fillibuster he changes his mind and thinks we should continue the debate. This will buy time and make for some good political theater.
Nanazi is sure doing a lot of talking. If she had the votes why not vote.
And what is this if she can’t get 60 votes????
What a stupid bitch.
They shouldn’t be able to get 60 votes now that Scott Brown is the 41st vote. This is just for show. Once they fail to get 60 votes, they can blame the GOP and proceed to reconciliation.
Quality, affordable SLAVERY for all is more like it. You will be forced to carry a health insurance card for which you pony up hundreds of dollars a month for, which they plan to forcibly remove from your checking account. Then try finding a doctor who will take pennies to treat you. They did not go to medical school to become a government employee which they will now be. This is a wrecking ball pointed directly at every single American’s physical health.
It’s times like this where having McCain and Snowe sort of pay off. Sure I’d rather have a real conservative in their place, but in this one instance having the GOP stick together and having some rats vote with us shows bi-partisan support AGAINST the bill with only partisan support for it. Clearly the people see this and the rats are worried.
Pelousy getting awful damn mouthy about the Senate, considering she is not a member.
” Once they fail to get 60 votes, they can blame the GOP and proceed to reconciliation.”
Of course they will go to reconciliation, which is why we must contact our reps by the MASSES and tell them to vote NO!
An AP story said that 9 or 10 reps who voted against the bill might change their minds, which is why they all need to hear from us.
Bottom line: Call your reps and tell them to vote NO! for govt.-run health care.
I think the dems are all sniffing glue or horse manure.
Don’t look now you lying mobster felon hag...but you can’t even get 200 in the House anymore.
The House doesn't want the Senate version. Here's an explaination I read early today. More at the link.
Republicans rage against reconciliation for healthcare reform
The Democrats' new plan would go like this: The House would first vote to approve the Senate healthcare bill, which passed on Dec. 24 on a party-line vote, 60 to 39. But because the Senate bill is unacceptable to most House members, the House would also pass a package of fixes. Then, the Senate would pass the fixes under the reconciliation rules that require only a majority vote.
Angry Republicans present only one of the challenges to this plan. House Democrats wary of the Senate present another.
The key is convincing House Democrats that the Senate will pass the fixes, as promised. Asked at a press briefing whether the House is willing to take a leap of faith by passing the bill before the Senate passes the fixes, House majority leader Steny Hoyer said: Well, we're working on having that faith verified."
End snip
According to what I heard on Rush today this is bunk. If the House passes the Senate bill there is no need for any “reconciliation.” The Senate bill becomes law. I have never in my life seen such hocum from Washington. It has to stop!
Reconciliation means nothing here. If the House votes yes this becomes law on Obama’s signature. The Senate has already passed the bill. As I understand it reconciliation arises when the House’s budget bill and the Senate’s have been reconciled in comittee. Then the Senate need only 51 votes. There are not two bills here. There’s only the Senate bill which is now before the House. If it passes the House it’s over. Obama won’t risk losing in reconciliation or a challenge to it. He’ll sign the bill as is and hang the Dems on either side out to dry.
Mental masturbation.
You have it right Sunshine. Once the House votes for the Sentate bill, there is nothing that could force the Senate to change anything in that bill, regardless of any promises them made to anyone.
