Nothing on the wires yet. No more news given than what I put in the headline.
I just tried the link I put up again, and I pulled up the page just fine even now... Strange.
I wonder if the setting might have gone from “Public” to FB folks only? I am signed in there right now — don’t know if one can still do that or not.
This is the page I have open in a another tab - just refreshed it & works fine... Not much to see except his friends list though. And, that’s got some gems in it alone...
http://www.facebook.com/jpbedell
SORRY - The page HAS been taken down now... I guess I had it in my cache still in Firefox. I tried the link with Google Chrome and I can’t pull it up.
I wonder if I should take a screenshot(s)? Not really much to see. Perhaps I’ll copy down the names of his friends to see if the names pop up later on down the road somewhere?
Can you get a screen capture of that friends list? It seems that someone is trying to scrub the internet of any info regarding this guy.
Best to put this in a safe place.
I missed that post, good job!
I have seen the arrest warrant for his felony perjury charge posted on FR. Does anyone know the outcome of that case? I was thinking if he was convicted, he surely could not be a gun owner since that’s a no no. Did he plea bargain out. Did nics not catch it?
Anyone know what happened with that case? I thought the weed charge was a misdemeanor, so that wouldn’t affect his purchasing a firearm.
Mr. Bedell came across as an educated and technologically proficient man with strong libertarian leanings, an anger toward the U.S. government, and a belief that far-reaching conspiracies were behind events as big as the Sept. 11, 2001,
...In his writings, Mr. Bedell also railed against U.S. drug laws, particularly the prohibition on marijuana cultivation.
In my opinion, this illustrates there is very little difference between libertarian and leftist/liberal.
[ONE-TIME PING to the old OU Bombing list as there may be some similarities here in regards to the shooter & those he associated with. Also seeing pages disappearing off the web - just like with the OU Bombing as well. I’ve taken some screenshots of Bedell’s FB page, and friends pages as well, that’s what I begin this post talking about with Deo.]
DONE & Grabs of associated pages as well... Let’s just say this guy had some interesting friends I’m sure those investigating this will want to look at very closely...
Pakistan, Afghanistan, a lot of San Jose State Alumni, etc...
IMHO - This looks like the same kind of people hanging out with the OU Bomber at and around his apartment building — except a little more “Western”. Very educated folks, too — Engineer, Doctor, etc... It would seem from a brief overview that his friends met through San Jose State are almost all Muslim as well.
He might have been anti-government, but striking the Pentagon during war-time should be taken more as an anti-military - or perhaps more precisely and anti-Military Policy type action. Think Ayers & the Pentagon attack he waged... Why did Ayers hit the Pentagon? To protest the war against Communism in Vietnam, and to stand in alliance with his Comrades the North Vietnamese, and to attempt to disrupt military communications.
Viewing what little bit is on FB about this guy — if it is indeed the same guy (a little old to graduate in ‘08, but not unheard of - might not have gone to the school either - may have met them somewhere he hung out near the campus). Anyway reading through what friends profiles are public viewing, it is clear this guy was definitely sympathetic to the jihadists - or hung out with those who were.
I am going to go out on a limb and say that he was probably a person who had a libertarian streak in him years ago, but after 9/11 he got caught up in the anti-gov’t truther movement, and the anti-Iraq/Afghanistan War movement as well. If he started believing the propaganda (as I have seen some former libertarians do) they seem to move farther to the “left” and fall right into the communist/socialist/jihadist/fascist melee that defines liberalism nowadays.
I will have to do a little more investigating regarding some names of Imams and such that have come up as “fan pages” of his friends, too. There may be something interesting there.
You know what I wish? That we could trust our government to get to the truth of this matter - whether he is connected to terrorists, or terrorist sympathizers/advocates/activists. Back during the OU Bombing investigation, just like the OKC investigation clear ties with Islamic radicals was uncovered (in fact many of the SAME PEOPLE all “around” Norman, OK - the OKC Bombing, the OU Bombing, and the same mosque visited by some of the 9/11 terrorists when they were receiving flying lessons).
These were all ignored by our government of course - OKC blamed squarely on the shoulders of McVeigh and McNichols (who WERE guilty, but did NOT act alone, and acted WITH Islamic Radicals), OU blamed on a “suicidal depressed college student” (who just happens to live in an apartment building whose residents attended the same mosque as mentioned above - and IMHO he also tried to get busted beforehand at the feed/garden store).
All JMHO and based on really cursory overview at this point. I don’t know what others have written throughout the thread as I didn’t know this happened till a short while ago (don’t watch TV, and didn’t get over here yesterday).
WOW - I’m REALLY surprised they said they haven’t ruled out terrorism. Of course, after looking at his FB friends list I PERSONALLY wouldn’t rule out a terrorist connection either!
I got some intersting info. on “associates” through his FB page this morning. Seems like all the folks he met in San Jose? Well, most of them are Muslims. I have taken screenshots/windowcaptures as I still had the pages in my Cache on Firefox when they took down his Facebook page late this morning.
One guy in particular is noteworthy - checking him out a little more re: the pages he “favorited” over on FB - several Imams, and organizations. Don’t know yet what they are all like... The one I recognized, but can’t remember how it is said in Arabic, is the group that translates their name as “Sword of Allah”. Oh, and yes, his buddy is an Obama supporter... Found that interesting as well...
Let me know if you want copies of the screencaptures I did. It’s all “2nd level” though - his associates, not himself through these connections. And, maybe some are just “Facebook friends” although with a good number being from the same graduating class at San Jose State that becomes a little improbably, IMHO.
Wish I would have gotten over here and seen this sooner yesterday - would love to have helped with the digging. :) Thanks for all your hard work.
You nailed that — been told for years that Libertarians are much closer to the Liberals then Conservatives and just another instance. A couple of conservative ideas and many more liberal ideas does not make a conservative.
Excellent idea!
Might also be helpful to have a “How to” page or thread, with pointers similar to HTML info here at FR, where random questions and answers, for the improvement of certain skills along the lines that you have mentioned could be archived and accessible, in one place, through a FReepmail ping list or some such thing.
To be sure this goes away in a hurry, tie him to the ‘lone suicide’ Bomber at OU, and he will go off the radar faster then you can snap your fingers.
Very similar — immediately say no terrorists connection. Check the DC bomber’s roommate.
This idea that you immediately rule out terrorism because he was a lone guy is NUTS!
Again- as our FReeper friend said last week- a libertarian is an anarchist who bathes ;)
Actually there are some pretty clear differences- but I’m seeing quite a bit of anarchist attitudes creeping in on both the right and the left lately..
Thanks for the ping LibertyRocks. Here’s a bump.
Oh, you saw that zinger too!!:)
A true patriot, imo, needs something more than resentment and anger as a political platform.
Having read a little more about Bedell, it looks like that old devil weed took over his mind as surely as the pod people would.
Thankfully, we’ll never know what he planned to accomplish at the Pentagon.
I'll second that, Dita.
And neither can be appropriately associated with the Tea Parties who believe in Constitutional government, and not anarchy.
Thanks for the link to the WSJ article.
This guy was clearly messed up.
We interrupt this program for an announcement....:-)
Is it your birthday, FRiend (((fatima))), or am I a day late?

The OU Daily newspaper reported that within a very short time after
Hinrichs’ death, the FBI picked up and interrogated Fazal Cheema, an OU
Arabic instructor Hossam Barakat, and two other Arab students who were all
attending a party or small gathering together. OU student TV reporter
Rachael Kahne is quoted in an article by distinguished journalist Michelle
Maulkin’s as saying that “Minutes after the explosion, police busted into a
student’s apartment and arrested four Muslim students who were there for a
small gathering.Among those arrested was Fazal Cheema (later released), Joel
Hinrichs Pakistani roommate.”
Rachael Kahne should be taken seriously because she is an OU student who is
a TV reporter in OU’s media journalism department that prepares a TV
magazine program aired locally, “News for Norman.” Her statements reported
by Maulkin also suggest prior warning or knowledge by authorities. The
presence of the FBI, BATF, and Terrorism Task force so quickly on scene
before the game was over and to detonate the backpack also contributes to
suggestions of prior warning or investigation.
Interesting post #529.
:)Day late but Thank you Beautiful.((((((Hugs))))))
