A dozen House of Representatives Democrats opposed to abortion are willing to kill President Barack Obama's healthcare reform plan unless it satisfies their demand for language barring the procedure, Representative Bart Stupak said on Thursday.
"Yes. We're prepared to take responsibility," Stupak said on ABC's "Good Morning America" when asked if he and his 11 Democratic allies were willing to accept the consequences for bringing down healthcare reform over abortion.
"Let's face it. I want to see healthcare. But we're not going to bypass the principles of belief that we feel strongly about," he said.
The Michigan Democrat held up House legislation last year until he was satisfied that its language prevented federal tax dollars from being used to fund abortions. No specific legislation has yet surfaced. But Obama began a final push for reform on Wednesday, urging Congress to vote on the plan in the next few weeks even if it means passing the measure with a narrow democratic majority and no Republican support...
But Stupak said anti-abortion lawmakers are worried that the legislative language will follow the blueprint of the reform bill passed by the Senate, which he said does not provide sufficient safeguards.

Amen.
Attention Republican congressmen. Attention. This fact is the key to getting more dems to reject it. Give them their excuse. Force no abortion coverage in this and they will not vote for it. Work with the Stupaks to get this to be the hinge issue.
At the same time tell any of the dems who want to remain in Congress they need to vote against it or they will be swept out.
The RNC needs to make national ads that need to run on Rush, on major channels about how unopular this healthcare is, that the dems just won’t listen to the large majority of people, that they don’t care if they get thrown out. They don’t care if they use tricks in order to pass healthcare without a 60 vote majority. So throw them out. People don’t want 1/6 th of the economy shifted under government control. We don’t want DMV-style healthcare. We don’t want millions of more federalized unionized healthcare workers. We don’t want rationed care.
We need the names of these 12 Honorable members of the Democrat party. They deserve a round of applause.
I don’t care if they kill it because of the color of ink they used to print it as long as the kill it in total!!!
It’s all political theater IMO. The anti-abortion-clause Democrats will get the clause removed and will vote for the bill knowing full well that the clause will be there later. Principles? I doubt it.
This bill is the exception to my opposition to abortion. Abort this bill!
“I dont care if they kill it because of the color of ink they used to print it as long as the kill it in total!!!”
AMEN! KILL THE BILL!
The bluedogs like their jobs and want to keep them.
0bummerCare really has helped show exactly what Lib priorities are.
1) Pro-Death / Anti-Human
a) Abortion
b) Euthanasia ~ Death Panels ~ Cost Control
2) Power hungry / Government centered / Slavemasters
It is interesting that Libs prefer killing over enslavement.
Not so easy to do. The House can’t remove the clause. They must vote up or down on the Senate bill.
For the clause to be removed the senate must do so and revote the whole bill.
Dang, this is complex. I can’t seem to get my mind around it. Thanks.
It’s not enough for just 12 members to have this objection to the bill — this bill is abominable in more ways than one, and if just 12 oppose, the objections of those 12 will be “overcome” and “health care” will “pass.” You still need to call YOUR representative and say in no uncertain terms that national health reform is unacceptable! It’s not a matter for the federal government!! They’re getting us all to talk about just the life issue, which although a core reason to oppose, is NOT the basic reason to oppose!
Their ideological father was a murderer from the beginning...
