Sid the Kid is also golden.
Sidney Crosby, arguably the top hockeyplayer in the world, scored in overtime as Canada defeated the United States 3-2 in overtime to win the Olympic gold medal in Vancouver on Sunday. With its goalie pulled for an extra attacker, the United States' Zach Parise scored against Canada with 25 seconds remaining in the third period to tie the game at 2-2 and send the into overtime.
The teams are playing a 20-minute sudden death overtime. If neither team scores during the extra session, a shootout will determine the winner. Parise's goal capped a two-goal comeback for the United States, which trailed 2-0 midway through the game.
Jonathan Toews scored the first goal of the game, beating U.S. goalie Ryan Miller on a rebound 12:50 into the game, following a turnover by the United States deep in their own zone.
It was the first time in these Olympics that the U.S. has given up the first goal. Canada extended the lead to 2-0 on a goal by Corey Perry 7:13 into the second period. The United States, however, got back into the game when Ryan Kesler deflected a Patrick Kane shot past his National Hockey League teammate Canadian goalie Roberto Luongo of the Vancouver Canucks with 7:16 left in the second period.

You mean me? Nah. I’m really OK.
“...and now we dont need to face the horror of 10,000,000 Canadian suicides.”
LOL!
That’s what I said to a guy at work on Friday. I told him to expect Jonestown-style mass suicides in cities all over Canada.
Except there wouldn’t be a vat of kool-aid that everyone drank from. It’d be a vat of really skunky Moosehead or Labatts.
Picture this...
A guy standing on a city street with a megaphone calling out “C’mon children, come and have some beer. You’ll feel better soon. The pain will go away. Besides, the Americans will be invading us soon.”
It was an exciting game all around. Poor Ryan Miller! He looked like he wanted to die.
Good game. I salute the Canadian team for their Gold Medal, and I congratulate the US team for their hard earned silver.
I played hockey for about 15 years and used to be a die-hard fan but stopped watching in the nineties...the NHL brand was too boring.
This was what hockey should be.
Kudos to the Canadians!
Well I’m not glad it ended this way! In fact I hope all their ice melts. : - )
Congrats Canada! Well done!
And good job USA! You played a great game!
A sense of humour (humor) will always defuse a defeat. I like to say it exists here.
I remember bitter defeats of my own native country in the past. Sport raised above and beyond what it is. Once more I digress, hope I am forgiven.
The Russian football team came to England from war torn Russia in 1945. Everyone sorry for them. How could they even perform?
They beat mighty Arsenal 4-3 in a foggy London stadium. The Russian Captain Semischastney, appeared with two black eyes after ward. England took it too seriously, some fouled the Russian players. It was only a bloomin' soccer game.
Pardon the off topic, but we can all be good sports and have a laugh. Now there is Lord Stanley's Cup and I believe Canada does not have it. (chuckle).
The Games were much more exciting when the athletes were amateurs. Between going pro and the collapse of the Iron Curtain, they just aren’t the same.
Yah for CANADA!!!
Great Game!!!!
wowowowowoowowowowowowwwww!
Best to you, Canada!
Thanks for reminding me why I used to be a crazed Hockey fan.
With one hand I salute Canada... with the other hand I am blowing a raspberry. See you in the playoffs, Sidney.
Well done, Canada!
I’m glad we could give you guys such a good game!
Congrats Canada. But as a Pens fan it was truly weird to root against Crosby. I didn’t like it at all. I’m glad he’s back on my team tuesday.
We wuz rubbed!
Heck of a game. Glad we beat you and not the Swedes.
Could have done without OT though...
You bet! It was some game, and Canada deserved to win.
No. Minor leaguers in North America and pro players playing in Europe.
I know! :)
Awesome game. Well worth the ignominy of watching a drive-by-media network.
