Sid the Kid is also golden.
Sidney Crosby, arguably the top hockeyplayer in the world, scored in overtime as Canada defeated the United States 3-2 in overtime to win the Olympic gold medal in Vancouver on Sunday. With its goalie pulled for an extra attacker, the United States' Zach Parise scored against Canada with 25 seconds remaining in the third period to tie the game at 2-2 and send the into overtime.
The teams are playing a 20-minute sudden death overtime. If neither team scores during the extra session, a shootout will determine the winner. Parise's goal capped a two-goal comeback for the United States, which trailed 2-0 midway through the game.
Jonathan Toews scored the first goal of the game, beating U.S. goalie Ryan Miller on a rebound 12:50 into the game, following a turnover by the United States deep in their own zone.
It was the first time in these Olympics that the U.S. has given up the first goal. Canada extended the lead to 2-0 on a goal by Corey Perry 7:13 into the second period. The United States, however, got back into the game when Ryan Kesler deflected a Patrick Kane shot past his National Hockey League teammate Canadian goalie Roberto Luongo of the Vancouver Canucks with 7:16 left in the second period.

Fantastic game! Probably the best hockey match since Lake Placid ‘80. Congratulations to Team Canada on a spectacular win for the Gold, and a “well done” to our own Team USA. See y’all in ‘14!
Nice! But Team USA did fine too.
Well done Canada, North America put the Euros to shame these games.
I was just about to watch my tivo of the match, and saw the headline.
My bad, eh?
.
Congrats Canada.
I’m just being a gracious LOSER. Of course I wanted OUR SIDE to WIN!!!
Congratulations to my adopted country Canada. Commiserations to a gallant American team. Having in my younger days come up only too close to the hockey fan- he of the beer parlour variety, I know only too well the quote by Kipling.
If you can meet with triumph and disaster and treat those two imposters just the same.
For me I took my two grand children for an annual trip into little Hulbert, Michigan. For there is a yard and a nice tavern, the deer come to be fed and stare in at my grandchildren.
The whole world, the whole bloomin' lot so far far away. No Congress, no Canadian parliament, no CNN, no CBC. One week later you can be sure it will be a memory.
Next up will be Lord Stanley's Cup. Yes, the old NHL stole it. America will likely have some sort of claim this time up. (chuckle).
You’ll still enjoy the game; it’s a thriller. :)
Thanks for that, my FRiend, I’ll get it going straight away.
Congrats, Canada!
I’m glad it ended the way it did. Team USA can be proud, if disappointed, and now we don’t need to face the horror of 10,000,000 Canadian suicides.
Looks good!
Maybe not. I heard that the NHL is not going to let its pros play Olympic hockey due to the breakup of teams for the Olympics. May be all amateurs again.
Wadda prick.
Just a little bit of a laugh Doe Eyes on someones part.
Ah yes, why did I reply? For there were scads of deer looking at us through the bay window of a bar/restaurant in Hulbert, Michigan. Small kids were enthralled. I got squeamish thinking of the November deer season. Just loved those Doe eyes looking in. Off topic, I might get a rap here.
Congrats to our Canadian neighbors. The best hockey game I have ever seen in my life. Team USA played well, but Canada deserves the gold metal. You played AWESOME!
