Already? You would think they wouldn’t be thirsty yet!
Why it is simply Orsonwellsian.

I’m with you. I think that is the next danger zone ready to pop. Hopefully we are all wrong and this will settle down rapidly, with no more significant earthquakes for a long time
And if you are right with Him, I suggest sharing the news with others. Also we are told to LOOK UP!

The Year of the Great Shaking...been saying this since Jan...and it continues.
If you are looking at the list that is earthquakes that have occurred in the last 12 hours. The one(s) with the expanding red/yellow rings are the most recent. On the map each EQ icon is color coded to denote the severity. The red icons are the worst ones. There is one just off the coast that is the 8.8. There are several others. Zoom up the map a bit so you can easily pick out the multitude of quakes and aftershocks. Click in each one for the details. I don’t know if there are several stations they get info from, or if each icon is a different quake.
From the website, details of the 8.8:
RSOE Emergency and Disaster Information Service
Budapest, Hungary
Summary
A massive magnitude-8.8 earthquake struck near the coast of south-central Chile early on Saturday, shaking buildings and causing blackouts in parts of the capital Santiago, 200 miles away. A tsunami warning was issued for Chile and Peru by the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center, and a tsunami watch was issued for Ecuador, Colombia, Panama, Costa Rica and Antarctica. Soon after, the U.S. Geological Survey said the quake had generated a tsunami that may have been destructive along the Chilean coast near the epicenter. The USGS said the earthquake struck 56 miles northeast of the city of Concepcion at a depth of 34 miles at 3:34 a.m./1:34 EST. Its magnitude was initially reported at 8.3 then 8.5. An earthquake of magnitude 8 or over is classified as a “great” earthquake that can cause “tremendous damage,” according to the USGS website. The earthquake that devastated Haiti’s capital Port-au-Prince on January 12 was rated at magnitude 7.0.
They show 214 dead.
That is a sweet link indeed. I check it out almost daily.
Hopefully, I can lend some insight into the concept of irony or satire. The idea of The Canadian Womens Hockey teams behavior being responsible for earthquakes and tsunamis is a comment on the banality of observations such as Global Warming or the moral behavior of local populace who are affected causing such disasters . Or similarly framed questions such as the ditz on CNN who asked a seismologist if recent developments were responsible for these earthquakes. (Or in a related, hopelessly moronic assertion by Obama that we can change nature)
Blaming contemporaneous events(such as the women’s hockey celebration) and similarly short sighted explanations for several billions year old processes involving plate tectonics and the earths crust is what is preposterous and worthy of a sardonically humorous stab.
I regret this attempt at was lost on many including the aggressively offended .
BTW, heres a thread on the Hawaii Tsunami at Ace of Spades headquarters that ought to give some folks here the vapors:

I was checking it a lot during the last swarm in Yellowstone. But it was about as easy to step out back to see if there was a giant fireball coming at me..
Excellent article on the human being using humor in a crisis.
