Mike Huckabee Rips CPAC For Becoming ‘More Libertarian’ (Yay mike)
Personal Liberty Digest ^ | February 26, 2010

Posted on 02/26/2010 11:44:15 AM PST by presidio9

Former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee has criticized the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC), whose recent conference he refused to attend, alleging it has departed from its conservative principles.

Speaking on Fox News last weekend, Huckabee said that CPAC has become "more libertarian and less Republican over the last few years, one of the reasons why I [did not attend the event] this year."

The former GOP presidential candidate also suggested that the popularity of the Tea Party nation movement and its events all over the country have caused the influence of the CPAC to rapidly decline, and the organization is becoming irrelevant.

"The Tea Party has taken all the oxygen out of the room, where CPAC was historically the event," he told Fox News host Geraldo Rivera.

Huckabee was partially responding to the CPAC presidential straw poll over the weekend, in which he scored only 4 percent among CPAC voters and came in sixth place.

Meanwhile, CPAC representatives responded to the former governor’s allegations by saying they were "perplexed" and denied the purported libertarian slant.

According to the American Conservative Union, the organization that has hosted CPAC for 37 years, the 2010 event drew more than 10,000 conservative activists from across the country, including more than 5,000 college students.

People want the government to leave them alone and the response of politicians like Huckabee and Obama is contempt.

Wrong. Conservatives want less goverment. They never said anything about the government leaving them alone. That's the libertarian position.

Yeah, really keep defining things down like that and you’ll find a party that you, Mitt Romney and Mike Huckabee belong to.

The rest of us have some work to do while you’re screwing around with your moronic circular firing squad.

College students are where the liberalism is coming from, or am I wrong?

I hope you are wrong, or, I hope you will be wrong soon. I'm to far removed to know but I'd sure like to see the kids getting more conservative.

Maybe we'll get more analysis soon. There sure were enough bloggers attending!

That’s a distinction with little difference.

Libertarian could mean “weak military” or it could mean “to devoted to the literal Constitution”

CPAC did choose Ron Paul in their straw poll , but, on the other hand... the electiricty of the Tea Party’s love for the COTUS was omnipresent.

Huck may want to speak with more precision. There was a huge surge in energy at CPAC, and I’m not sure it is wise to throw a clumsy stone in that general direction.

I don’t have a long list of top tier candidates that I like, but... I do not trust Huck.

Shouldn’t Suckabee be busy frying squirrels and releasing rapists and murderers into society?

LOL, definine things down? I'm just stating the Conservative position, as opposed to the Liberaltarian one? You do understand that Liberaltarians and Conservatives are two different types of Republicans, don't you?

Why is a nanny stater sitting in judgement of CPAC at this point in time? And why did he refuse to attend the recent conference? I was unawarethat CPAC or the Tea Party Movement was attached to any one party. It is a grass roots CONSERVATIVE organization. So what does the Huckster hope to gain by making such a statement?

I fully support the Tea Party, and it has energized many in the GOP. I do believe that there is a legitimate concern that a third movement or party will insure the reelection of Obama. I never did support Huck, but he is not all bad. I can understand the antipathy toward the GOP. They deserve it, but I do see a big change in the GOP from the last few years. I am encouraged for the first time in many years. It all depends upon who the GOP is running for POTUS whether or not I will continue to be encouraged.

"Any man who is under 30, and is not a liberal, has not heart; and any man who is over 30, and is not a conservative, has no brains." -Winston Churchill

Libertarianism might sound like a way for college students to hedge their bets in an overwhelmingly liberal enviornment. In my experience, they were no more conservative with their liberal counterparts, they just liked disagreeing with their professors once in a while. In other words, it was the anarchism that appealed to them.

On this one, I'm with Huck. In fact I liked him a lot until his mouth became brown from kissing McAca's a** right after the election. I simply can not be for anyone who supports the WEASEL from AZ. But then again, same thing with Sarah... She lost a lot of points with me for the same reason... But I still have hopes from her in the future we'll see. I'm very pleased I have not seen her closed to the WEAZEL as I thought she would be. It could be she realized she could lose a lot by going against her base... I'm hopeful

But again, actions have meaning and therefore CONSEQUENCES. CPAC is cleary going for the HOMOSEXUAL AGENDA... Of course, they packaged it carefully as "GOProud" = queer "conservatives." They think this is the angle to bring them into the conservative camp.

Of course, the CONSERVATIVE label APPARENTLY can be applied to anything nowadays! even to HOMOSEXUALS :) Well, not in my book. I am a SOCIAL CONSERVATIVE. The CONSERVATIVE part stands for CONSERVING MORAL TRADITIONAL VALUES principally.

So, good bye CPAC!
