Embattled Gov. Paterson has pulled the plug on his bid to seek reelection, a source close to the governor said Friday.
Paterson will announce the decision later Friday.
Paterson has been under fire for having contacted a woman who accused one of his top aides of domestic violence.
The source said the governor has agreed not to seek election, but he will not resign - opting to serve out the remainder of his term.
The decision clears the way for Attorney General Andrew Cuomo, who is the favorite of many Democrats, to seek the nomination unimpeded.

My gut tells me there is something really, really bad being hidden....and like most political cr**, it’ll have to do with money.
Andrew Cuomo had a hand in stoking the subprime crisis. Can his opponent make it stick to him?
A shame. I really liked Paterson. One of my favorite Democrats. He was a serious man who tried to do good, take on the extremists in his own party, and not demagogue the GOP. NY is poorer without him.

[Lastly, Misc.]
As well as the Fannie-Freddie train wreck we can thank Cuomo the younger for managing to misplace $59 billion while he was HUD Secretary. Of course that won’t be mentioned in the lapdog NY press which has already anointed him the next governor. They did that the last time around and spent four years touting then Attorney General Spitzer. Look what that got us.
“SCREECH! RACISM!”
“NYers will be punished with another Cuomo.”
No one will force them to vote for him.
All failures of government, and you cheer his efforts to shakedown the private sector and ignore government culpability.
I'm all for prosecuting fraud or illegal business practices, but the ballpark everybody was operating in was created by the government, and they're only interested in punishing the players on the field.
Andrew Cuomo should be in prison, not the governor's mansion or the White House.
Paterson stood his ground against Obama, and became the new EMANUEL GOLDSTEIN.
Now, Obama and his gay media minions at the NYTimes has destroyed him in true Chicago thug-style, and you here nary a word about “RACISM!”, you’ll notice.
Yes and bipartisan efforts at that.....
and, it was individuals who committed the fraud. Who packaged and sold bogus securities? Who wrote CDOs that were unfunded? Who lied on their mortgage apps? Who looked the other way when mortgage apps lacked documentation that looked legit? Who leveraged up their businesses to 30:1 or more levels?
I will yell about government not enforcing the laws or enabling people not to be accountable for their actions but please don’t try and ignore the role of individual actors here.
Are you intentionally making the thread unreadable by posting cut-and-paste marathon lists of completely unrelated links?
It’s something I do for the people I ping. They get more general news once a day, but perhaps I should do that on a separate thread. FRegards ....
Some people want to broaden their threads with more bumps. That was the theory.
