They know exactly what they are doing...and they know it is WRONG! The Republicans pulled the same stuff when they were in power and they were voted out in 2006. This should be a lesson to all in both parties. The American people are not stupid. They are paying attention. This is what the tea party is all about. We the people, run this country. You are not leaders. You are representatives. You are public SERVANTS...there to serve and represent US. Us seems a fitting word for U.S. (United States). The last remark in this video says it all. We the people, need to stand up and stop this madness...and we will...with our votes. We will not give up our country...the greatest nation in the world, to a bunch of greedy politicians. It is our birthright and it is ours to hand down to our children and grandchildren to be enjoyed by our posterity forever with God's blessing.
Reconcilliation. It’s just another term for “nuclear option”.
So sayeth the Rat Machine.
Click on the Breitbart link and watch the video. I forgot to include the link in the original post.
Even Sheets Byrd, who wrote the reconciliation option, said it was wrong in this case.
Actually, not. Its part of the Senate rules, although its intent is being stretched here.
What is NOT part of reconcilliation is what the Democraps will do to stop the amendment process; Reid will overrule the Senate parliamentarian and push it to a vote. THAT is the nuclear option.
Well, I would say that even Byrd would disagree. I guess that it makes the action at least dishonorable. That does not seem to dissuade the Democrats though...
More than that, what that does is change the nature of the Senate forever; there will be no reason to honor the fillibuster anymore because it will already have been breached.
If anyone thought there was little comity in the Senate nowadays, they should see what happens after they break the rules to ram through this huge and unpopular measure. Majority will rule with a vengeance.
A couple of things...
Although I've seen it repeated a number of places, Reid can't "overrule" the Senate Parliamentarian. The President of the Senate can move to overrule the Senate Parliamentarian, but it requires a floor vote of at least 50, plus his. He can't do it unilaterally.
The so-called "nuclear option", is not what you describe. It is a parliamentary procedure that would essentially undo Senate Rule 22, commonly referred to as the filibuster. While Senate rules generally require 2/3rds vote to change them, there is a parliamentary maneuver - known as a point of order, that can be raised by any Senator and ruled on by the Chair (usually the President of the Senate, Biden in this case) - that would allow the majority to abolish (altogether) the filibuster with a simple majority vote. It's a little more complicated than that, but that's the basic gist.
I seriously doubt that Reid could get 50 Senators to abolish the filibuster. The lasting damage to the Senate would be too severe. Either he gets this done using Budget Reconciliation, which is in itself unlikely, or it dies its death in committee.
2010 is the year for the Tea Party to break thru the two-party stranglehold on our government. As Scott Brown so rudely reminded us yesterday, once they’re in the club, they protect the club. Neither party listens to , nor cares about, its constituents.
I was sickened as I watched this video. A couple of days later, I read of Murtha’s death.

There is a substantial difference in using the filibuster to block judicial appointments and in using the filibuster to block legislation. Our system can continue to operate without having new legislation passed thus the filibuster applies, for the exceptions which are mostly budgetary the reconciliation option was created so that areas of government would not be shut down. The system suffers badly though if there are too many vacancies on the bench and a filibuster is not acceptable in such instance.
The Republicans were right in 2005 for challenging the democrats filibuster of judicial nominees and there were and still are many Americans who agree and understand the difference between filibustering judicial nominees and filibustering legislation.
So know that you are wrong when you claim that the Republicans pulled the same thing as the democrats are doing now. There is a very substantial difference and there are many Tea Party people who will not agree with you if you claim that the filibuster applies to judicial appointments.
Sorry, but misguided Tea Partiers who go off in their own direction will do nothing but enable the Dem stranglehold on government to continue. The Tea Party should be used to move the debate in a conservative direction, NOT to make a point that results in decades of even deeper socialism just to assuage the egos of those in charge of the movement. The point has been made - people are seeing that they need to vote for candidates that embrace the Constitution. The fact is, that in some states, this will still mean the election of a “moderate” like Scott Brown. He may have voted for the jobs bill, which I am upset about, but it’s better than having a Ted Kennedy clone who would vote for any liberal bill that comes his way.
I’d never support him for President in a primary, but he’s far better than the alternative that voters in Massachusetts had.
Second, are there 218 Dems in the house who don't care about getting reelected?
There are only one-third of the Senate up for re-election this year, and of that, many come from liberal states that want their senator to vote for this. They can afford to lose 9 senators and still have enough to pass it through reconciliation.
The Tea Party won’t move anyone in the conservative direction if their support of people like Scott Brown gets rewarded by his arrogant disregard for their beliefs.
The point is that members of both parties find that their guys become part of the club, not part of a movement, once they’re inducted into the Senate.. these guys need to believe that they’ll be voted out - even if its for someone “worse”, unless they listen to the people, and respect the Constitution.
But if we’re just in the game of counting numbers of Repubs vs. Dems, how can we expect to see things change?
Are you saying that the Republicans didn’t pull this when they were in power? I don’t know. I am going by what Harry Reid is spouting.
I only started paying this close attention in the last couple of years. Like many Americans, I have to work, keep house, raise my kids. My family members and I, like most Americans, are doing the best we can to hold up our end. I read what I can, watch the news, and vote. Then, I hope the people we’ve placed in power do the RIGHT thing in the job we’ve given them. If not, I vote different next time.
Reid claimed it had been used many times. If that is not true and if his statement is not challenged with truth...how am I to know?
Do the Democrats in the House have the same luxury?
I’m not sure what the situation is in the House.
I don’t know, but you’re sure as hell not going to see things change once Obama has fully implemented the nanny state he has in store for us.
